Google Sitemap

by Georgi Chokov

There are many 3rd party tools that will make a Sitemap from a Sitefinity site for you. One of them is XML- SiteMaps.com.  To create a sitemap from their site, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to their website
  2. Complete the form on page
  3. Download the uncompressed sitemap, which is the first option on screen
  4. Upload your sitemap to your Sitefinity project (so it should be (http://www.mysite.com/sitemap.xml)
  5. Go to Google Webmaster Tools and either login or create an account
  6. Once you enter Google Sitemap, you will see navigation on the left. Click on Sitemaps
  7. Fill out the form to upload a Sitemap

For a complete list of 3rd party Sitemap tools, please view this webpage. For a list of Google Sitemap FAQ, please visit their site.

Nice post, but with Sitefinity being a dynamic site it is a pain to have to keep creating the sitemap... so better to use an approach that we discussed before to create it on the fly....

    Hi Sean,

we are going to include the sitemap generator tool with Sitefinity that will do all this automatically. Initially we thought it'll be with 3.6, but right now it seems we won't have time and it'll be included with 4.0. At any rate, we have already started the development.

I'm a web developer and I'm evaluating SiteFinity, one issue that I haven't found much documentation about is how "search engine friendly" are SiteFinity sites. Is there any information on that?

    Hi Shadi,

Sitefinity is SEO friendly in many ways and here are a few of them:

    1. Sitefinity can create multiple URLs for a page, so there are more search words

    2. Sitefinity has meta tags, like title, keywords and description, for each page. Sitefinity allows you to add more of them in the page interface

    3. All of the URLs are human readable. When you click on a news story, the title and date of the story is re-written in the URL
