Having worked closely with Frimley Park Hospital on other successful software development projects, DCSL Software was approached by the pathology team to consult, design and develop a new website to promote their new ‘Pathology’ service. The website would support the new offering by providing an easy-to-use knowledge base and reference guide for GPs and other medical professionals regarding pathology tests. Furthermore, it would provide news articles, contact information and background details of the service providers. Accompanying the information part of the website would be a secure e-commerce style interface enabling registered users to acquire supplies.
While this requirement in itself did not represent a difficult challenge for the DCSL Software team, the timeframe in which the project was to be delivered certainly did! The entire design, development and delivery of the website needed to be completed within 26 days, in line with the public launch of the service.
Keen not to disappoint valued clients, the challenge was accepted in the knowledge that the only way the project could be delivered on time was through the implementation of the Sitefinity CMS which would deliver much of what was required as standard.
The site was to be comprised of two key parts; the information section including the ‘Handbook’ (based on a 103-page document) of available tests, and the secure section used to obtain supplies which would be developed as a bespoke module in ASP.NET and bolted onto the Sitefinity frame.
The ease of use offered by the Sitefinity interface made the configuration of the website simple to complete and teach to the client, who would ultimately take responsibility for the content. The design was implemented without fuss and the site took shape in no time. Given the utilization of DCSL Software’s hosting environment at Rackspace for their other services, it made sense to host the new website on these systems also.
The client was impressed with the fluidity of the CMS interface and its intuitive design. They were able to take ownership of the content without a lengthy training process and the stability of the system meant the site was functional before the deadline. With the assistance of the support team at Telerik, the project was deemed a resounding success.
Although the existing site was deemed a success, the Pathology management have since been working with DCSL Software to realign the goals of the website in terms of target audience, focus, message and available features. The ultimate goal is to create a state of the art, cutting edge, industry leading promotional website based on the latest Web 2.0 concepts. Owing much to the simplicity of the original implementation, the new website will also be developed using Telerik’s impressive Sitefinity product.
