    Hi Guys

    Great work with sitefinity 3. It is brilliant. I always thought the inline designer in 2.X was a fall back. Now you have master pages it is 10 times better.

    I am wondering how Membership is going to be applied in version 3.0. Will I be able to create my own ASP.NET 2.0 membership provider?

    I will have a requirement that login information comes from a different provider such as UserName, Password, Roles. I will also be required to include extra information such as UserPriceLevel.

    I know you can do this with .NET 2.0 membership. How will sitefinity 3.0 implement this?

    Any links to information regarding this would be useful.

    Hi Paul,

    Currently we have only implemented the CMS User Administration with Membership Services.
    You can easily set your own Membership, Role and Profile providers, making the appropriate changes in the Web.config file:

    ...
    <roleManager defaultProvider="YourRoleProvider" enabled="true">
     <providers>
      <clear/>
      <add name="YourRoleProvider" type=.../>
    </roleManager>
    <membership defaultProvider="YourlMembershipProvider">
     <providers>
      <clear/>
      <add name="YourMembershipProvider" type=... />
     </providers>
    </membership>
    <profile defaultProvider="YourProfileProvider">
     <providers>
      <clear/>
      <add name="YourProfileProvider" type=.../>
     </providers>
     <properties>
      <add name="UserPriceLevel"/>
      ...
     </properties>
    </profile>
    ...

    Please let us know if you have some feedback/suggestions about User Administration in Sitefinity 3.0 as we intend to improve it till the official release.

    Sincerely yours,

    Vlad

    Thanks Vlad

    I think it is great that you are using the .NET 2.0 providers. It makes it 100 times easier for us. We already have a working application that has membership and roles.

    My concern is that you might change from using the .NET 2.0 providers.

    Will you always be using the .NET 2.0 providers?

    Hi Paul,

    You are free to use any Membership provider. That’s the idea of data providers. We will supply our own implementation of Membership providers to support all databases that Sitefinity supports. Moreover, in Sitefinity you will be able to use multiple Membership providers within a single application. For example, you might want to use Active Directory provider for administration and some other provider for public users. Note that multiple Membership providers are not supported in the current beta.
