    Hi all,

    We were able to implement all capabilities promised for RC2, however, as there are still some minor issues with Medium Trust support, we decided to finish that item as well rather than releasing today without Medium Trust support. We anticipate an extra 2-3 days of work and, conservatively speaking, we will be ready with everything on Friday, 27th April.

    If you cannot wait till then and Medium Trust is not an issue for you, please let us know and we will send you a distribution of Sitefinity.

    The final release date remains unaffected.

    Regards,
    The SF team

    Hi,

    Wow great news! Yes I can't wait... have a spare day in my development schedule at the moment so wouldn't mind filling some time looking at RC2.

    Medium Trust is not an issue for us as we lease our own server so would love it if you could send the file early and I will have a look.

    Thanks

    Seth

    We would love to get the current distribution without Medium Trust - it is not an issue for our projects.

    I'd love to test this too. Medium trust is not an issue for me. Web farm support is much more important.

    Will there be any issues while upgrading ?

    Great Rebecca. I really look forward to it. However, can you clarify what that word 'preliminary' means with regard to RC2.

    Sincerely,

    Ben

    Hi I wouldn't mind looking at it...

    I have a mixed bunch of websites but wouldn't mind testing it for the ones that don't have the medium trust issues.

    Thanks

    I don't seem able to find the option to handle multiple language content. This was one of the features promised for the release on the 23rd. Can you let me know where it it. Also, from what I can see there is no way to cross link CMS items together. i.e relevant list, articles etc. Will this be included in the final release?

    Cheers,

    Pete

    Hi Peter,

    You need to set persistenceMode attribute in the localization section in your web.config. Currently the supported modes are PathPrefix and QueryString. Then you need to allow localization for each content provider and mark which metadata fields you want to be localizable.

    <localization persistenceMode="PathPrefix" defaultCulture="en" cultures="en, es, fr, de, bg">
    .....

    <cmsEngine defaultProvider="Generic_Content">
         <providers>
        <clear/>
        <add name="Generic_Content"
                 allowLocalization="True"
    .....

    <metaFields>
        <add key="Generic_Content.Name" localizable="False" ... />
        <add key="Generic_Content.Description" localizable="True" ... />
            <add key="Generic_Content.Author" localizable="True" ... />
    .....

    A dropdown control will appear on the top right corner, listing all configured languages. For Content modules with allowed localization in the View tab also will appear a list off all configured languages. Note changing language for fields that haven’t been marked as localizable will have no affect on them.

    For pages localizable fields are Manu Label, Description and Keywords.

    Can you clarify what you mean by “cross link CMS items”?

    Sincerely yours,
    Bob

    Thanks for the info, I will try that now. By cross linked cms items, I refer to the ability to create relationships between one content type and another. i.e. On a news item, I might want to show all related articles, events etc. If the user creates this themselves in the html we have no way of reversing the links i.e showing all related news items on the articles item.

    Hope this makes sense,

    Cheers, Pete

    PS: Just as a side note some of the other cms's I am currently looking at use the concept of dynamic pages, where by you add properties as you need to. For example title would be a string property and have a string editor, publish would be a date and have a pop-up calendar. To support multiple languages you can flag each property as i18n so you can enter multiple languages. I'm not sure how this fits with Sitifinity's overall approach but it is very intuitive

    Upon closer inspection of the web.config I can see that you are doing something similar. Instead of doing this in the database and allowing imports, you are doing it in the web.config. Nice to see  :)

    Ok. A bit confused. I can enter the multiple language content by going into the modules -> generic content section. But how do i enter multiple language content on the Page the itself. i.e. Pages->Edit ->Edit this page. If you want to take this conversation off thread is cool. Just think it might be useful to anyone else who is new to Sitefinity too

    Hi Peter,

    We have plans to implement functionality similar to what you describe as item relationships for version 3.1 along with categories and tag clouds.

    I guess we forgot to put the language bar in the page editor. Sorry for the inconvenience, we will add it in the next build. And by the way, there are some improvements for multilingual handling that may not make it till Friday.
    Also, I think we didn’t put LanguageBar control in the toolbox so here is the declaration:

    <add name="Language Bar" section="General" type="Telerik.Localization.WebControls.LanguageBar, Telerik.Localization"/>

    Important! Once you set the default language and you enter content, you must not change it anymore. So carefully choose your default language before you start entering content. We will fix this issue at some later point.

    Hi Bob,

    Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately categorisation is one of our core requirements and as such must be part of any cms we select. Can you let me know when 3.1 is likely to be delivered. (I feel so bad asking as I know you are under a huge amount of pressure to roll out the current version).

    Thanks ans keep up the good work, it's looking great so far.

    Pete

    Hi Rebecca,

    Interesting proposal (to give free upgrades of SF to current customers for life).  I'm wondering (and have heard other comments about, including on various threads of these forums) how you qualify both "official release" and "mid-May."  Also, what feature-sets are we talking about?  Speaking for myself, I'm more interested in getting a useful, working version soon, rather than having my $ refunded, but of course I woulnd't complain about free upgrades ;).

    I think you're a wonderful company and I REALLY dig your products and I'm really looking forward to getting all my sites on to Sitefinity.
