    Hi

I have a self contained CMS project in RC1. How do I upgrade from RC1 to RC2. Do I only have to replace the /BIN and /ADMIN from the empty project in program files?

I also had another projects in /websites it seems it was upgraded automatically. I checked the version of cms.dll it is 1054.3 does that mean it is RC2?

    Hi,

The upgrade instructions are on page 26 of the RC2 User Manual. I beleive that all RC1 sites have to be upgraded this way.

The admin is not located at /admin anymore it is under /sitefinity - which is great because we wanted to use /admin for other admin activities.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Paul,

The old projects cannot be upgraded automatically because the folder structure is different and there are a lot of changes in the web.config. You can upgrade them following the instructions in the User Manual, as Seth points out. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any problems with upgrading.

The assembly version of Sitefinity RC2 is 3.0.1243.3.

    All the best,

It seems there is something wrong with your upgrade. I ran the RC2 upgrade and created a new project. But I still see the /admin not /sitefinity.

Why would this be? How can I tell if a project is RC1 or RC2?

Should I have uninstalled RC1 before installing RC2. I had no warning of this Issue.

    Hi Paul,

I don't know if this will help you but this is what I had to do as per the instructions in the User manual.

    • Backup you RC1 projects by copying projects in the websites dir to another dir. I also backed up dbs as well.
    • Uninstall RC1 (I then made sure that the websites directory was deleted so that you start with a clean slate - this is why you need to copy the dir to another directory)
    • Install RC2
    • Create all projects that where in RC1 again in RC2 using the project manager and point each project to respective RC1 dbs (this will upgrade the database automatically).
    • As per page 26 of the user manual copy items specified - like images, themes, master pages, custom user controls from the RC1 projects backup dir that you made to the RC2 projects that you have newly created (don't copy your admin directory and things like that only what is specified in the manual).
    • Fire-up your newly created RC2 project and sitefinity will run some startup tasks and your away.

Telerik - I hope this is right?

This is what I did with no dramas at all.

Except I am getting a error on the pollview.ascx when building the project - something to do with RadChart not referencing - I assume this is a bug but haven't reported it yet.

    Thanks

    Seth

    Hi,

Is there an upgrade path from Beta 2?  Do I need to upgrade to RC1, then to RC2, then to full release?  Or can I just upgrade from Beta 2 to the full version when it's released?

    Thanks

    Ben

    Hi Ben,

Please find the full instructions attached.
We realize that upgrading from Sitefinity 3.0 beta 2 is not an easy or painless task at all, having to pass through so many steps and make so many changes to the web.config.
So, if you prefer, we can upgrade your project for you. Open a new support thread and attach your project if you decide in favor of this.

Thanks for the offer of doing the upgrade for me.

Is it an option to create a new RC2 project from scratch, point it to the same db and then just copy over changes i've made (like stylesheets, images, masterpages, themes, etc.)?  The list of files i've created/changed is relatively small

    Hi Ben Alexandra,

Yes, you can do that but you should run the following script first into database:

update sf_CmsPage SET ParentId = NULL where ParentId = '00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000'
update sf_CmsPage SET TemplateId = NULL where TemplateId = '00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000'
update sf_CmsControlProperty SET ParentId = NULL where ParentId = '00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000'

    Hi,

I just did the upgrade. It was pretty easy, just created an empty project from RC2, pointed it at the old db after running those 3 update scripts.  I copied over a couple of things from my old project and I was up and running.

The only issue with how you now handle URLs and not having the concept of primary URLs.  I've been promised that'll be fixed for the final release in 10 days or so, so I guess I'll have to hold off and redo it all then.

I hope you're still on schedule for that release date.

    Thanks, looking forward to it!

    Ben
