    Dear all,

We are focused on improving our documentation and would like to know your thoughts about the Developer Manual, the User Manual and the TIU Sample Site Manual. Your feedback will help us tremendously in shaping up all our help files.

The Sitefinity team would like to thank you in advance for your involvement and sharing your opinion with us.

    Hi,

Comments on the user manual - I think you (or we) need a user manual that goes into stuff such as using the content editor... I know we can customise this a but by adding and removing toolbar items but I often have had to make up a user manual in the past just on this very basic stuff. It would be helpful in the User pdfs weher written in such a way that we could remove chapters that were not relevant.

Obviously the current developer manual needs to be filled out some more especially I think around the modules. I still aren't exactly clear between the advantage/disadvantages of the two types of modules.

I would like to see as well as documentation, telerik encouraging license holders to contribute modules to maybe a source forum - sort of like a resource of open source of modules, user contols that leverage the rad controls and SF. I would certainly be interested in sharing when I have done some so maybe other would too.

    Thanks

    Seth

    1. You have mentioned flash training videos in the past. And Telerik's videos are great. Perhaps links to these can be incorporated into the End User Manual. They would open the flash video that pertains to that section in the manual. Ideally this would be for the End User Manual related topics and not Developer Manual topics.

    2. Speaking of Telerik.com. I was skeptical of the change to the new support center...and now I don't know how I lived without it. That would be a nice touch for developers on the sitefinity.com site as well.

    3. Also, something my clients like to see in live training that might translate to the End User Manual:

A day in the life of a manager (step by step tasks for manager end users)
A day in the life of a marketing representative (step by step tasks for marketing end users)

And so on...for all of the End Users/Stakeholders.

    4. And finally, quick reference guides for end users. This might also work well with links to the training videos. Common tasks that you can squeeze into two or three columns on a 8.5 x 11 in. pdf.

I forgot to mention that I am not a technical writer. Therefore, others may have experience that shows that these ideas don't work well for these types of manuals. They are merely ideas.

I forgot to mention the manuals that you haven't mentioned yet. Some additional sales manuals for us to pitch your product to our clients would be great. If I had a wish list it would contain documents like the following:

    1. Quick comparison charts against other CMS products including Adobe's Contribute (which it obviously kills, but is a very common fall back for SMBs)
    2. "Why CMS" and "Why Sitefinity"
    3. Separate sales documents for CMS for Managers, CMS for Marketing Representatives. Like you already have on the sitefinity site.
    4. Sitefinity technical sales document including SEO section.

Many of these topics already exist in different locations however a formal sales documents section in  the client.net or on a public page would be extremely helpful.

    Hi Ben,

Thank you very much for sending us your ideas about improving Sitefinity documentation. Actually, we have plans to include video tutorials for Sitefinity 3.0. Once we have a more stable interface design, we will start making them. We will appreciate if you share your preferences for the content of such video tutorials.

Also, we agree with the idea about sales documentation in your second post and we will definitely discuss them.

Your telerik points have been updated.

    Kind regards,
    Bogdana Ivanova
