    I am working on creating search indexes for my site on Sitefinity RC 2.  I haven't seen any posts like this so far, so I thought I'd post it as a bug.

    When I go to Reindex under Actions for an existing search index, I get the following error message:
    Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown.

    Also, I have a quick question about creating a search index.  What does "Default page where x are published" mean?  Does it specify the page where the indexing is created?

    Thanks,
    Ann

    Hi Ann,

    "When I go to Reindex under Actions for an existing search index, I get the following error message:
    Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown."

    There are still issues with the Search Index and we have not preform. I am able to replicate this issue if I put this code in a user control SiteMapBase.GetCurrentProvider().CurrentNode which cases an internal exception.

    Default page where x are published

    This is a page on which you have a control say News, Events, ContentList etc that represents your content items. This link is used by Telerik.Sitefinity.Web.RouteHelper.ResolveUrl to resolve the url to a single item returned by search results.

    Hello Ann,

    We are fixing bugs this week, so I believe that the team will be able to sort out most of the issues.

    Hi Ivan,

    The search indexing works fine with content blocks and events.  However, any search indexing with "Static HTML in pages" does not work.

    I created a new search index and only checked the "Static HTML in pages" checkbox.  Then I tried to reindex this newly created seach index, but I still get this error:

    Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown.

    Any ideas of when this will be fixed?  We have been anxiously awaiting this search functionality for a while and appreciate any insights you have.

    Thanks,
    Ann

    In case this is important, I have the "Allow search engines to index this page" property checked on a few pages and I am still getting the same errors with the search.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello Ann,

    Could you please do the following:
    - Upgrade to the last week internal build
    - Reproduce the error

    In that build, we have a test logging and health monitoring system, which should log more information about this problem. The error logs could be found in ~/App_Data/Sitefinity/Logs

    Thank you in advance, and let me know if this is not option.

    Best wishes,
    Georgi

    Hello Jeff Mah,

    We have fixed the problem. You should not get it after upgrading to Service pack 1, which is going to be released shortly.

    All the best,

    Hello George ,

    Most probably you have some custom control on a  page that causes this issue. We performed some tests locally and this was the only case when this error is thrown. Can you try creating a new project  with about 10 pages and dropping some of the built-in widgets , then create a new index and run it.

    Best wishes,
    Ivan Dimitrov

    Hi Ivan,

    I have created a backup for the db. Then I removed all of the pages and Page templates minus the Page template for the home page and the home page itself. The home page now has nothing but an image and few content blocks. I have created a dynamic js slider previously but i removed it from the page as well.

    Why is it looking for files such as : Styles/Window.css

    Here's the error log

    Hi George ,

    Do you have RadScriptManager or RadStyleSheetManager on the master page? If this is the case you can include the RadScriptManager from page properties and use the built-in Js Script control to inject custom scripts. Another option is adding the RadScriptManager from the code behind where you escape the crawler request ( this should work for custom controls as well)

    if(this.Page.Items["IsInIndexMode"] == null)
    {
       // this is not a crawler request add your logic
    }

    Kind regards,
    Ivan Dimitrov

    Ivan,

    You totally rock.  That just solved my indexing problem.  It also opens up a powerful situation where you can decide what to index and what not to index on a page basis.

    Thanks!

    Hi Ivan,

    Thank you for your response. I'd rather add the script manager from the code behind since i have too many pages created and i don't want the client to be forced to check this option every time he creates a page.

    I tried to add the RadScriptManager using this method which usually works but didn't work:

    protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e)
    {
        Page.Init += delegate(object sender, EventArgs e_Init)
                     {
                         if (ScriptManager.GetCurrent(Page) == null)
                         {
                             var radScriptManager = new RadScriptManager();
                             radScriptManager.ID = "radScriptManager";
                             Page.Form.Controls.AddAt(0, radScriptManager );
                         }
                     };
        base.OnInit(e);
    }

    Can you point me out to the right direction on how to add it?

    Hello George ,

    If you do not have script manager on a page, Sitefinity will add it automatically. Is there any reason for injecting the script manager on the master page?

    Hi Ivan,

    The reason why i prefer to add the script manager from the master page is that i have too many pages created already and the client will be adding some extra pages too and i don't want him to go into the trouble of checking the add RadScriptManager option in the page properties.

    Is there any chance that i can use this code in the master page?

    if(this.Page.Items["IsInIndexMode"] == null)
    {
       // this is not a crawler request add your logic
    }

    Is there a possibility to call the page how it's seen by the search indexer to trace the exception?

    Hi Team,

    I ended up replacing the RadScriptManager on my master pages with the asp.net script manager and it worked properly.

    Thanks,

    G

    Hi George ,

    @Florian this will require to add the check in each custom control you have, but the error could be thrown from the template if you have some controls where you set some properties like NavigateUrl of a Hyperlink.
