    We upgraded our site to 3.5 SP1.

    In the old Master Page we had this code:
    <div id="search">
         <asp:contentplaceholder id="search" runat="server"></asp:contentplaceholder>
       </div>

    After upgrading, the search index was broken.  I was able to fix this by re-indexing.

    In the Template the Search Box did not appear, but on the live site the Search Box was there but all of the formatting settings from the old site were gone.  Because the control was not in the Template, I could not edit the formatting settings.

    In the Master Page I changed this:
    <asp:contentplaceholder id="search" runat="server"></asp:contentplaceholder>

    to this:
    <asp:contentplaceholder id="newsearch" runat="server"></asp:contentplaceholder>

    The result was that none of the container boxes were editable in the Template.  Finally, I tried putting both ContentPlaceHolder's in (one for "search" and one for "newsearch")  I was then able to drag a new Search Box into "newsearch" and change the formatting.

    Now two search boxes are appearing in the "search" ContentPlaceHolder (the one I want is in "newsearch" for a total of three) and I cannot edit nor delete the ones in "search".

    Can you help me to get rid of the phantom search boxes?

    Hi danfinney,

    Can you please tell us from which version you upgraded? Did you use the patch?

    Kind regards,

    We upgraded from version 3.2.

    We did a fresh install of 3.5 SP1 then migrated the sites over.  We did point to the existing database, which it upgraded.

    This is only one of many problems we ran into.  This is the only one we have encountered that we cannot fix.

    Here is what the code inside of the ContentPlaceHolder "search" looks like on the live site when you "view source."

          <input name="ctl00$search$tm_SearchBox1$ctl00$queryText" type="text" id="ctl00_search_tm_SearchBox1_ctl00_queryText" style="width:150px;" /><input name="ctl00$search$tm_SearchBox1$ctl00$searchButton" type="button" id="ctl00_search_tm_SearchBox1_ctl00_searchButton" value="Search" />

    <fieldset class="sf_searchBox"
        <label for="ctl00_search_SearchBox1_ctl00_ctl00_queryText">Search</label><input name="ctl00$search$SearchBox1$ctl00$ctl00$queryText" type="text" id="ctl00_search_SearchBox1_ctl00_ctl00_queryText" class="sf_searchText" /><input name="ctl00$search$SearchBox1$ctl00$ctl00$searchButton" type="button" id="ctl00_search_SearchBox1_ctl00_ctl00_searchButton" class="sf_searchSubmit" value="Search" alt="Search" />
    </fieldset>

    This is the code inside of ContentPlaceHolder "newsearch"

    <fieldset class="sf_searchBox"
    <input name="ctl00$newsearch$tm_SearchBox2$ctl00$ctl00$queryText" type="text" id="ctl00_newsearch_tm_SearchBox2_ctl00_ctl00_queryText" class="df_searchText" /><input name="ctl00$newsearch$tm_SearchBox2$ctl00$ctl00$searchButton" type="button" id="ctl00_newsearch_tm_SearchBox2_ctl00_ctl00_searchButton" class="df_searchSubmit" value="Search" alt="Search" />
    </fieldset>

    Notice in "search" one of the errant Search Box instances is not surrounded by a fieldset.

    Hi danfinney,

    Could you please send us your master files? It will definitely help us if we can login to your project and see this behavior.
    By the way, could you try to change the IDs of the tags - there should be more than one tag with the same ID.

    Regards,
    Georgi
