    Greetings,

    I am using Sitefinity 3.1 and am getting this same message.  We have our setup such that the users in the website AD group can log in and have admin access, however, domain users who entered correct credentials are not logged in.  Worse, they are taken to afore mentioned server error page.  ENtering in invalid credentials rejects as you would expect.

    WHat is causing this, and how can it be corrected?

    Hi Jason,

    This is caused by users not being granted the "CMS Access" Permission under Administration of Sitefinity.  When a user hasn't got the permission of this type and the try to access any resources in the /Sitefinity path of the website they will see this error.

    Are you using the Sitefinity login screen to allow people to log in, probably you will need to create your own login page for normal users.

    Hope that points you in the right direction.

    Cheers
    Sean

    Greetings Sean,

    Thank you very much for your reply.  I am using the sitefinity login screen, however, we are using ActiveDirectory as our authentication data source.  There are three scenarios presently occuring:

    The user logs in with credentials not found in our active directory => user sees login page with denial error :: this is correct

    The user logs in with valid network credentials but is NOT a member of the website group setup for administrative (Unrestricted) access => user receives a server error page with the error above :: this is not preferred

    The user logs in with valid network credentials and IS a member of the unrestricted role => User is logged in and can use Sitefinity features :: this is correct

    I current have this definition setup in my web.config
    <telerik>
        .
        .
        .
        <security>
                <roles>
                    <clear />
                    <add name="website" permission="Unrestricted" />
                </roles>
         .
         .
         .
         </security>
    </telerik>

    Thanks in advance,

    Jason

    Hello Jason,

    In order to handle this error I added a custom 403 error (Forbiden) to my web.config file:

    <customErrors mode="On" >
    <
    error statusCode="403" redirect="/AccessDenied.aspx" />
    </
    customErrors>

    Now all 403 errors will be forwarded to the redirect page you setup.  Let me know if you have any problems or questions with this.
