I don't know if this is a permission problem, but  I placed a master page file on my desktop and I couldn't access it via the File upload dialog.  I had to copy the file to \App_Master directory in order to use it.

    Hi Bob Howard,

Unfortunately, we were unable to reproduce the behavior you report. Could you please elaborate a bit more? Any information such as particular errors or the place where you are trying the upload will be highly appreciated. Are you attempting to upload a .master file from Files -> Upload Files or from Pages -> Templates -> Upload Master Page

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards, Nikifor

I placed the master page file on my desktop and when I tried to use the file open dialog to include the master page, the master page wasn't visible, but when I placed it in the App Master folder of my site, I could view and select it.  I think it may be a client side security permission issue.

    Hi Bob Howard,

Thank you for your prompt response.

Most likely, the problem is caused by local security permissions as you suggested. We were not able to reproduce the issue and we don't think it has to do with Sitefinity.

What we would suggest in this situation is check the user’s permissions and local access. You can check if you can access the desktop from the Files > Upload a file screen.

Also, you can create a page in a non-Sitefinity project, insert a Browse button and check if you can access your desktop from other applications.

    Best Regards,
