    Every time I try to change the settings of my controls I get the following error,

    "There is an error in XML document (1, 1)."

    This happened recently in my events control, and I am fed up with this result here are the settings I was using when I received this error.

    event list first page
    event list second page

    I am not sure what the error is. And it doesn't specify what XML document has the error. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello Ali,

    Could you check our screenshot and tell us whether you have made any changes to Behavior category MasterSettings and DetailSettings properties?
    We could not find the exact error message in your screenshot, so if you attach a new one displaying the error message we can take further actions and try to figure out what the problem is.

    My screen shot doesn't match yours, i believe thats because yours was the News control, not the events like mine. So here is a screen shot of the behaviors panel of mine: Screen shot

    are you getting this error in firefox? sometimes I get this error when I have a syntax error in my user control or web.config. make sure that  you disable custom errors in web.config and disable the sf404 if you are using it. that usually lets firefox show the actual error instead of that generic xml thing.

    Hi Ali,

    Do you use MySQL database with Sitefinity?
    There is an issue when saving xml values to the MySQL database. The controls which have such properties are ContentView, NewsView, BlogPosts.

    The problem is that MySQL adds a '?' symbol in the beginning of the xml string. The fix will be included in next release.

    For the time being we can suggest that you apply the workaround described below:

    Please backup your database first. Then modify the two stored procedures in the database: sf_CmsControlProperty_upd and sf_CmsControlProperty_ins.

    In sf_CmsControlProperty_upd replace `Value` = P_Value  with `Value` = Replace(P_Value, '?<?xml', '<?xml')
    CREATE DEFINER=`root`@`localhost` PROCEDURE `sf_CmsControlProperty_upd`(in PO_ControlID varchar(39), in PO_Name varchar(54), in P_ParentID varchar(39), in P_ParentName varchar(54), in P_Value longtext)
    BEGIN
        DECLARE _msg TINYINT;
        UPDATE `sf32`.`sf_CmsControlProperty` SET `ParentID` = P_ParentID, `ParentName` = P_ParentName, `Value` = Replace(P_Value, '?<?xml''<?xml'WHERE `ControlID` = PO_ControlID AND `Name` = PO_Name;

        IF (row_count() <> 1) THEN SET _msg='error'END IF;
    END

    In sf_CmsControlProperty_ins replace P_Value with Replace(P_Value, '?<?xml', '<?xml')
    CREATE DEFINER=`root`@`localhost` PROCEDURE `sf_CmsControlProperty_ins`(in P_ControlID varchar(39), in P_Name varchar(54), in P_ParentID varchar(39), in P_ParentName varchar(54), in P_Value longtext)
    BEGIN
        DECLARE _msg TINYINT;
        INSERT INTO `sf32`.`sf_CmsControlProperty` (`ControlID`, `Name`, `ParentID`, `ParentName`, `Value`) VALUES (P_ControlID, P_Name, P_ParentID, P_ParentName, Replace(P_Value, '?<?xml''<?xml')

    END

    These changes can be made using the MySQL Administrator tool.

    Let us know if this is the case.
