Has anyone successfully exported their site yet?

I have a site running on MySQL and C# and I was hoping to export the site as a template (sitefinity 3.2) and convert the database to SQL 2005/8 .

Has anyone gone through this process yet?

MySQL does not play well with sitefinity and I am getting sick of trying to create work around. I tried upgrading via the hotfix and that didn't work as well. I suspect that my site's MySQL database had something to do with that issue.

So ya, anybody export their site yet? and will a site created in C# with MySQL transfer to C# and SQL2005/8 ?

    Hello Ali,

Thank you for using our services.

There should not be a problem to export your website. Note that the tool exports data from pages section, Generic Content, News, Blogs and Lists module. If you want to migrate your project from MySQL to SQL SERVER 2005/2008 you need to use database converter.

    I hope this helps.

do you think I need to set the web.config timeout to something longer? I basically timed out and I am not sure why it didn't just export the pages, its not a very large site.

I will try exporting again to see if I can't get the pages to work. I will probably completely start from scratch as far as the database goes, and then just use the site template for the pages and images. I only have a few custom usercontrols so not really that big of a deal for me to switch. I'll update this thread once I figure out if I can export my site or not.

    Hi Ali,

    Thank you for getting back.

Probably the user you use or ASP WORKER process do not have permissions over your App_Data folder and the cannot read/write there. Please grant appropriate permissions for the user to this directory. This is a server side issue.

    I hope this helps.

I'm having the same issue with a current site.

I've verified that the app has permissions. The zip file is created, then grows in size for a while, then I get the following exception after a few minutes:

Site template has not been exported : An IO exception occurred while reading from or writing to the zip file. Zip file: [path removed]\App_Data\Sitefinity_Exports\StoreExport\project.zip

Has any resolution to this issue been found? Since the folder and zip are created on the server, it's clear that the process has permissions. Could this be a timeout issue?

[EDIT] I'm using SQL Server 2008, so it appears that the problem is not limited to MySQL

    Hi Ian Muir,

Could you please try to export the site once again. When it fails, please check the error log file (~/App_Data/sitefinity.log). Please note that you must have health monitoring turned on in your web.config. This will give you and us a better idea of what is going wrong.

    Hi Ian Muir,

The error is "Message: Request timed out.". This means that your server is not responding, the HttpRuntimeSection.MaxRequestLength Property value has been reached or the server does not have enough resources to complete the request.

Generally the export tool should be used for small project - say up to 200-300 mb. For all other cased you can just get the project physical files and create a database backup.
