I am trying to save a generic content item which consists of two paragraphs.

When I hit the I'm done button the progress bar on the browser goes really slow and then I get a message that says Internet explorer cannot display the page.  And then it asks me to diagnose the connection problems.  this al happens inside the generic content dialog box.

This is a site running Sitefinity 3.7 service pack 4 on a 4.0 platform.  Fresh install.  However I was also doing this on a 3.7 SP3 3.5 platform as well.

It is almost like the site is timing out the connection to the DB.  There are no error messages and I have friendly http: error messages turned off.

I need help diagnosing the issue and resolving it.

    Hi bleutiger,

Please check whether there are errors in App_Data/stiefinity.log file and make sure that you are running the build for .NET 4.0 - 3.7.2136.240. You could try to isolate the issue by using a clean master page without other controls on it and use only Generic Content control. The paragraphs in the content should not be a problem there is something else that causes this issue. If you are not running the project in Visual Studio, you could check whether somehow your application pool does not get recycled.

    Ivan thanks for the reply

I forgot to mention that this also happens if I try to create a generic content item in the modules section of the adminsite.  which should have nothing to do with the master pages at all.

Oh and this is on the community edition by the way.

Has anyone else had this issue?

How would I check on the build?  I just downloaded it yesterday from my account.

Oh and while the sitefinity install is new this site has been running successfully on the 3.5 version for over a year.

However as I mentioned before it started doing this in the 3.5 version as well.  I did the upgrade hoping it would fix the issue.

    Hi bleutiger,

The stack trace does not provide information that shows what the exact issue is. If  you want you can open a support request and send us the project you use. We will set it up locally and see what the problem is.

Make sure that you are running .NET 3.5 project under .NET 4.0 Application Pool and vice versa. Here is a link that you can use to check which version of Sitefinity you use -How to check your current version

    Sincerely yours,
    Ivan Dimitrov

After further investigation I contacted my Webhosting company and it turns out that they had installed a new device between the Web server and the database server that looks for potential SQL injection Hacks and if it finds one or suspects one it kills the connection.

They needed to add my site to an exception list because something with the way itefinity saves information was tripping this device and causing it to block the connection.

So for anyone out there having similar issues on a Shared hosting plan don't just assume it is a Sitefinity bug.  Check with your hosting service too.

I have found this to be the case on several occasions actually.

Hope this info helps someone else.
