    Hello there,
I have a website which was done in version 3.7.2023.2.
This website is running on the intranet and uses Active directory to login to sitefinity. All the Sections but Newsletter is working fine.

So here is the issue, When someone logs in sitefinity and goes to Modules and click on Newsletter it gives the following error.
"Message: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized."

Please help on resolving the error as i don't know why it is throwing an "Unauthorized" error. one more thing the user is admin.

    Regards,
    Nimit Verma.

    Hi Nimit,

Can you please check the .NET trust mode of the website in IIS? Is it possible that the newsletters module is trying to generate the dynamic assembly in ~/Sitefinity/ServiceAssemblies/ folder and the IIS identity does not have permissions to write to this folder?

    Kind regards,
    Radoslav Georgiev

    Hi There,
I have checked all the permissions and they are all right.
First of all this site is an intranet site and using Active directory.

When I run the site on my side with our AD(active directory) integration is runs fine I can go to Newsletter module and create newsletters and send them.

When the customer click on the newsletter module everything seem to be right but as soon as he tries to setup SMTP setting or try of create a newsletter he gets a (401) Unauthorized error.

Please suggest what should be done.

    Regards,
    Nimit Verma.

    Hello Nimit,

What role does the user belong to? Can you also check the permissions settings for the role in the Newsletters settings?

    Hi,

Can you please check this folder: ~/Sitefinity/ServiceAssemblies/? It must contain a dynamically generated assembly, if it does not, then it means that the application pool cannot write the assembly to this folder. This might be the case if the application is running in Medium Trust or if there are some additional restrictions there. If this is the case you can get a local copy of the site, run it where it will generate the assembly and then put the assembly in this folder.

    Hello Radoslav

There are two files in the folder ~/Sitefinity/ServiceAssemblies/

There is a file with a name thats alphanumeric and kinda long . dll
    There is also an Info.txt.

When the user attempts to create a newletter he gets the generic error. Then I check the sitefinity.log and he gets 401 unauthorized.

    Suggestions?

Maybe we can do a conference screen share.
