I created a masterpage to be uploaded as a template that has third party controls on it.  In preview and live the page displays properly, but when going to edit the page, I get the "Object does not match target type" asp.net error.  The appropriate references are in the web.config.  Can anyone tell me why this happens and how to fix it?

    Hello Scott,

Can you please check the following blog post - Object does not match target type. I believe it will help you.
As a workaround, you can try to check if the users are in Edit mode, and simply skip the loading of the controls: Is page loaded in the Cms Admin

    I hope this helps.
