I am following the webinar to create custom intra-site modules. I got up to the point where I needed to add my custom tables into the Sitefinity.mdf database so I can could create my data access layer. Since I did this, I have had nothing but database issues. I get error 32 when I try to access my custom module inside the administrative area in my site:

Unable to open the physical file "C:\Program Files\telerik\Sitefinity3.6 Community\WebSites\sf_GSOW\App_Data\Sitefinity.mdf". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)".
Cannot attach the file 'C:\Program Files\telerik\Sitefinity3.6 Community\WebSites\sf_GSOW\App_Data\Sitefinity.mdf' as database 'Sitefinity GSOW'.

I have a program called 'unlocker' that allows me to kill processes or unlock files from a process that is holding it open, but no matter what I do I keep getting this error. I need to be able to create this custom modules with database access, and so far I am not seeing how this is possible if I keep getting error after error.

I have tried logging off, restarting, powering down completely, restarting web server...nothing has worked.

Please assist as soon as possible, thanks.

    anders.

    Hi andersleet,

You could try to figour out wich process is using the mdf file - some starting procedures or VS connection. Then stop this process. You could try manually to detach and reattach the database.

    Hello Ivan,

I was able to determine it was the MS SQL Server holding the database open. I was able to stop it by doing the following:

Start > Run > cmd > net stop mssqlserver

I am no longer getting an error 32, but I am not yet error-free. This is the error I have now:

Cannot open database "SF_GSOW" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM'.

Any ideas on this one? I tried to open the database with SQL Server Management Studio to check some stuff out and this is what I got:

Well I had it working at one point for a little while, except I could not add/modify entries in the database.  Now, I get this error:

The operating system returned error 6(The handle is invalid.) to SQL Server during a read at offset 0x00000000dc2000 in file 'C:\Program Files\telerik\Sitefinity3.6 Community\WebSites\sf_GSOW\App_Data\Sitefinity.mdf'. Additional messages in the SQL Server error log and system event log may provide more detail. This is a severe system-level error condition that threatens database integrity and must be corrected immediately. Complete a full database consistency check (DBCC CHECKDB). This error can be caused by many factors; for more information, see SQL Server Books Online.

I must be doing things completely wrong because these errors are getting out of hand.

Please help...I am inches away from putting my keyboard through my monitor :)

    Hello andersleet,

I sent a reply to the other request opened by you which has the same topic. I suggest that you should review Sitefinity installation section at SitefinityWatch.com

    Thanks Ivan,

I followed the video and I was doing everything correct...except one thing. Do NOT use SQLExpress! I must have missed that point when I went over the video the first time, but once I verified everything was in order, I created a new project with a MSSQL2005 database rather than the SQLExpress. I am not having any errors now when accessing my custom module...lets hope it stays that way!

    Once again, thanks Ivan!

    anders

    Hello saeed,

It looks like you use database storage on another hardrive and there is a problem with the database access which seems to be related to some infrastructure settings. You can google for the error Failde to retrieve text for this error. Reason : 15105  and find some answers about this specific message.

    Best wishes,
    Ivan Dimitrov
