I use Sitefinity 3.6 hotfix and I have a problem after every 10-20 page loads, the currnet page takes about 4-10 seconds to display. The page begins to load, then sits there idle for several seconds, then the page completes the load.

I already checked using perfmon that CPU % and disk activity on the Web server and SQL server are extremely low (less than 10% the whole time). It just seems like occasionally Sitefinity goes off into space for several seconds before it loads a page.

Any browser client that tries to load a page during this time sees 4-10 second delay. What is Sitefinity doing every so often that takes so long to respond to client requests?

I am looking for any methodical troubleshooting stpes that I can perform to isolate the problem.

    Thanks!
    Adam

Update: I can repro the issue pretty consistently if I have two browser windows open and I F5/refresh both quickly (flipping between the two).

Why would Sitefinity take 10 seconds to serve a page simply because two requests for the page came at nearly the same time? The normal load times for this page are .6-.9 seconds. This problem is independent from browser version, OS, etc. It's a server-side issue. I have turned on HttpWatch and other tools and client side is just waiting for the server to serve the page.

What sort of logging or metrics can I turn on to tell what Sitefinity is doing for 10 seconds while the clients wait? I really need more info about the internals of Sitefinity so that I can troubleshoot.

    Thanks!
    Adam

    Hi all,

Even simple tips about how to tell what Sitefinity is doing when it hangs for 10 seconds would be greatly appreciated. Anything that helps me unblock my troubleshooting is helpful.

Are there any debug logs I can enable or anything like that?

    Thanks!

    Hello Adam,

The Sitefinity.log file is located in the App_data directory. It's possible that there is some error logged in there.

Do you have caching enabled for the pages? We will need some more information to investigate the problem.

I checked that Sitefinity log and saw no errors for the last week during which we have this problem.

I did notice that suddenly our "trial edition" messages started appearing on our Web site again. Is there an intentional 5-10 second random delay in serving Web pages when you use trial edition? Maybe that's our problem?

    Thanks!
    Adam

    Hello adam,

The trial message could not be a reason for the delay. Do you have problems when you are working on a local dev machine. Could you give us a link the some of the problematic pages?

    All the best,
