I just started using sitefinity a couple of weeks ago.  I downloaded the blank project and created a test website for 3.6 originally and then today I downloaded 3.7 and started from scratch again.  I've setup SQL Server 2005 and IIS successfully (including adding the three extension mappings to aspnet_isapi.dll) and can administer the website.

Unfortunately, both 3.6 and 3.7 have exhibited the same nasty behaviour in IE 7.  The RadEditor hangs when it tries to load for a Generic Content control anywhere in the admin site (in a template a Page or from the Generic Content Module).  A blank white pane is displayed but none of the toolbars show up and the page shows as perpetually loading.  In that state, I cannot enter any text.  I have to halt the page from loading which does cause the toolboars to show up.  Sometimes things work Ok after this and I can enter text and save the info.  Other times sitefinity becomes unresponsive and I have to close the website complete.  Occasionally, this breaks IIS completely wherein I get a "There are too many people accessing the Web site at this time." error when I try to relaunch it.  I then have to reset IIS in order to be able to get back into sitefinity.

I've cleared all the IE history, temp files, cookies, etc. but that didn't help.

I'm running Windows XP SP3 and IE7.  Curiously, I do not see this behaviour in Firefox 3.5.2 so maybe it's an IE setting somewhere that is the culprit.

So after a bit more playing around, here is what I've found.  Firefox does still have issues they are just less frequent.  BTW, besides the RadEditor control, i've found other controls that become unresponsive (like the List control and the NewsView control).  Basically, they try to load themselves and then hang.

However, if I forgo using IIS completely and instead run the sitefinity through Visual Studio using it's built in develpment web server, the problems (so far) have not occured.  That leads me to conclude that the issue is with Sitefinity running under IIS 5.1 in XP.  My guess is that there are IIS connection or caching settings that could be or should be tweaked.

I'll keep working with sitefinity through Visual Studio's development web server but any ideas regarding what the problem is with IIS 5.1 and sitefinity would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Alex Florin,

This is a really strange issue, I agree that it is not something normal.
We have tried Sitefinity in similar environment with IIS 5.x but did not face the problem.

Is it an option for you to try the same project on another server, just for the test? Perhaps there is something really wrong with IIS, I wonder if reinstalling will fix the problem.

    Thanks for your reply.

I uninstalled and reinstalled IIS but the problem still occurs.  I develop ASP apps on this machine and I haven't seen this behavior before with IIS, although I have not used the RAD controls in an app.  I'll try to install sitefinity on another XP box this week to see if it happens there also.  If I get a chance, I'll download the trial version of your RAD controls and try them on a test application to see what happens.

I'll let you know what I find.

    Alex

    Hi Alex Florin,

Alright, I will be waiting for your feedback. By the way, you can try our RadEditor demo from the same pc, and check if it hangs again - RadEditor demos.

    All the best,
