    Greetings,

One of our pages has content with an RSS feed attached to it.  I went into the page properties and attempted to add a link alternate for the head so I could have the RSS icon show up there for both IE and FIrefox.  Unfortunetly, text/xml is now one of the options listed for type.

Is this something we can expect in the next release of sitefinity?

    Hello Jason,

Yes, we are planning to add the other possible values for this option in next version. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Actually, I did not quite understand from your post how did you add your RSS content? Is it created by our system or not? If it is created by our system and you are using the RssFeed control to provide link to that content, perhaps you have noticed that the link tag with text/xml type attribute is added to the head of the HTML.

    Greetings Vassil,

Thanks very much for your reply.  Now that you point that out I was wondering how the page knew (in FireFox anyway) that it had an RSS feed on it.  For some reason it doesnt show up in IE7.

    Hello Jason,

Please note that IE 7 will only accept well-formed XML in feeds. So the problem might be related to some special characters. You can try validating the feed and changing your XML-encoding from utf-8 to iso-8859-1.

    Best wishes,

    Hello Rebecca,

Thank you very much for the reply.  I cannot be certain regarding the feeds as they are being generated by Sitefinity and when I access the feed url in either FF or IE it works fine.  Where can i check the validity for the format for the document?

    Hi Jason,

You can try feedvalidator.org for example.

Thanks for the help Rebecca.  Now I have one last thing to ask for this year.  Our site has three feeds News/Events/PR.  For some reason the News feed, which I created first, is the only on that works.  When I try to access the other two I get the following error with call stack

The parameter 'username' must not be empty.
    Parameter name: username

    Hello Jason,

Unfortunately, this is a bug in the RSS Chanel provider for News and it appears under the following circumstances:
    1. The Membership provider is ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider.
    2. The field "Author" for a retrieved article is empty.
This problem has already been fixed for v3.2.

    Best wishes,
    Bob
