    Hi all,
    I just downloaded the trial standard version of sitefinity. Latest version. I installed in on our IIS 7 machine. Installation went ahead with no errors.

    I then try to go to the site, or project manager. I get this error message:

    =====
    PARSER ERROR:

    This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms.
    ======

    This issue does not appear in the faq or troubleshooting areas

    I can see the telerik and sitefinity 3.6 directories in IIS 7 but if I try to browse to them I get the above error. NOTE: It is a parser error, not the other "exception" error that google tells me is associated with this error message.

    Any ideas what this could be?

    P.S. Yes, I need to leave FIPS on. It IS a government computer.

    Hello Sean Fulmer,

    The problem comes from Newsletters module that cannot be used with FIPS. We will try  to overcome this in our future releases. I suggest you to turn off the Newsletters module if you are not going to use it.
    Sitefinity is trying to initialize all modules and their instances and newsletter module throws the error. If you disable this module, you will be able to login because Sitefinity will not try to initialize it.

    Please take a look at the following article:
    How to turn of modules

    Let us know if there is anything else that we can do for you.

    Best wishes,
    Ivan Dimitrov

    Well, that seems like good advice. But the directions you point me to dont seem to have any of the stuff I am supposed to disable, unless I am misreading the directions. Here is my web.config:

    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <configuration>
        <configSections>
            <sectionGroup name="telerik">
                <section name="projectManager" type="Telerik.Cms.ProjectManager.ProjectManagerSectionHandler, Telerik.Cms.ProjectManager" requirePermission="false"/>
            </sectionGroup>
        </configSections>
        <appSettings/>
        <connectionStrings/>
        <system.web>
            <compilation debug="true"></compilation>
            <authentication mode="Windows"/>
        </system.web>
        <system.codedom>
        </system.codedom>
        <system.webServer>
        </system.webServer>
        <telerik>
            <projectManager>
                <destinations>
                </destinations>
            </projectManager>
        </telerik>
    </configuration>

    Any Ideas? This is the web.config in my sitefinity 3.6 directory.

    Hello Sean Fulmer,

    Thank you for using our services.

    This is the config file of your project manager. You should edit the web.config file of a project that you have created. If the error is thrown in other circumstances, please describe more.

    It is my understanding from reading the Installation guide that you use the project manager to create projects. Thus, I installed and tried to access the project manager. That is when it gives the error. As such, I have been unable to create any projects.

    FYI I installed this on a win2003 server running IIS 7.

    So I guess what I am saying is I cant even get to the project manager in order to create projects. There are no other web.config files at all on that machine (it is a clean IIS install, currently unused for anything).

    Hi Sean Fulmer,

    I am sorry for your negative experience.

    Sitefinity is just an ASP.NET web site, and it can be deployed as any such web site. Please go to your Client.NET downloads section and download the blank project .zip archive for the .net version you use. Extract it somewhere on your file system (in an empty directory). Then go to IIS, add a new application pointing to the directory you just created. Remove the newsletter module, and finally go browse the created web site.

    We are open to suggestions for improvement (as we are working on such) about the installation process. Any ideas would be welcome.

    All the best,
    Dido
