Using the fancy new dialogs used with the RadEditor Prometheus version, uses are now unable to easily insert Hyperlinks to Images and we have nom idea how to insert a mailto link other than manually.  Bookmarks are also an issue for the end users, it is not as intuitive as the last version.

When we go back to the old editor version they loose the ability to grab stuff from the Image/document gallery.

Any chance you could use the nice new dialogs but give them similar tabs as we had before for the various linking functions they need to do?

Short term, unless I am wrong here, looks like we have to make a choice between the old editor and the new which means getting the needed functionality back at the cost of losing the ability to easily select from the new doc/image library?

    Hi Brook,

Indeed we decided to simplify the RadEditor dialogs and deliver only the really needed features to them. This is why the LinkManager dialog now has only three fields. We removed the target="_blank" option as the attribute is XHTML incompatible and according to the usablity experts, it delivers accessability and validation problems. However, adding this option back to the dialog as well as the mailto link option can be done pretty easily and is described in the following KB.

As for the problem with making a link from an image object, we already know about this. Hopefully we can address it for the next release.

so the KB article that you linked explained how to create a simple checkbox field to set the target option, but it does not say anything about making the link a mailto link.

Is there another KB article or walkthrough that i can view that explains how to do this.

We have gone through and "rolled back" to the default linkmanager so that our users can still create mailto links, but we would like to somehow include the "Select a page from this site" option that is in this newer linkmanager. Is there any way to combine the two??

    Any help is appreciated.

Any ideas as to when the image linking issue will be resolved? Not having this option is very limiting as linking images is something that is done often. Thanks for any ideas on progress of fixing this limitation.

    Hello Mike,

Adding a mail-to link to the link selector is pretty straightforward and you should follow the steps in the How to extend the custom RadEditor dialogs KB article. However, it seems that it is a good idea to add another article which explains how to achieve this case in details. So once I am ready with it, I'll get back to you. Thanks for pointing this out.

    John,

Actually, the option to make image links to some other address via the editor dialogs is already implemented in the SP2 of 3.2 version. You'll notice that once you select an already added image to the editor and click on the Insert a link dialog, the Title text box would not be visible, but only the address field. So in case you are not using this version, you would need to upgrade to it.
