    Hi

I am working on a "beta" website that uses Sitefinity Community Edition 3.x, before commiting the client to purchasing the product.

We seem to have a problem in that the newsletters module will only send to a maximum of 100 subscribers for each newsletter.  Then it hangs.

If the number of subscribers is less than 100 it succeeds every time.

We have adapted the time limit between each email to 1500 miliseconds.  All email addresses are valid.  And there is a non null and non zero length first name and last name for all records.

The limit of 100 is an estimate, calculated using:

    1.  All subscriber lists smaller than 100 send fine.
    2.  Using the % that shows when the send newsletter hangs, we have calculated that it hangs anywhere between 104 and 118 subscribers.  Ie:

    200 Subscribers hangs at 58%, ie, 118.
    340 Subscribers hangs at 32%, ie, 108.
    436 Subscribers hangs at 24%, ie, 104.
    597 Subscribers hangs at 19%, ie, 113.
    303 Subscribers hangs at 39%, ie, 118.

    74 Subscribers succeeds
    88 Subscribers succeeds
    70 Subscribers succeeds

So much for the symptoms.  My questions are:

    a.  Is there a limit on the amount of subscribers for the community edition

    b.  Could this just be a queueing problem on the mail server, ie, if I incease the time between each email being sent, is that likely to solve the issue?

    c.  Any other suggestion?

    d.  Has anyone else experienced this with the Community Edition?

    e.  Would it be any better using Sitefinity 3.7 SP4?

    Hi Andrew Wrigley,

There are no limits on subscribers in any of the 3.x editions.

Please take a look at this KB article, explaining some problems which you might encounter with the newsletters module. Also in the case that you are going to send a huge number of e-mails, please make sure to increase request timeout and maximum request length of the httpRuntime.

    Best wishes,

    Thanks Radoslav

I had already followed the recommendations in that KB, as detailed in my post.  Can you just clarify what you say:

"Also in the case that you are going to send a huge number of e-mails, please make sure to increase request timeout and maximum request length of the httpRuntime."

We are sending say, max, to 600 subscribers.  Should I increase the request timeout for that number?

Can you tell me where to set the request timeout and the maximum request length.

    Many thanks

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew Wrigley,

Those are settings that you should do in your web.config file. And yes please try to increase those. You can find more information on them in the previously linked article to MS's Help:
    <system.web>
        ...
        <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="51200" executionTimeout="3600"/>

Thanks Radoslav, that makes sense.  I had increased the the time between emails from 1000 to 1500 and instead of being able to send 100 emails, it hung at around 70, which looks like it timing out at around 100,000 milliseconds.

Will try changing the config file as suggested, and when we run another newsletter will test and post back.

    Many thanks

    Andrew
