    Logging into the admin just redirects you to the login page. It does not give you an error. It just simply returns you to the login page.

    1) I have checked the telerik_Users table and everything appears to be fine. No user is locked out and it shows no failed attempt for any user. We have tried multiple users and all users in the database are experiencing this problem. Trying an invalid user displays the expected validation error.

    2) I have tried going to a page in the admin after logging on (/sitefinity/admin/pages.aspx, /sitefinity/admin/modules.aspx, etc.). They all return you to the login page.

    3) I have checked the Sitefinity.log file. It doesn't have any errors logged since this has started happening. I have also checked all of the event logs. They do not show any errors or warnings either.

    4) I have tried changing the ReturnURL query string parameter to multiple valid files and multiple invalid files. All of the valid files just return you to the login page, but the invalid files actually throw a 'Resource cannot be found' error. After receiving that error, I have tried to go to valid pages and they return you to the login page.

    5) We have several developer workstations, a testing server, a staging server, and a production server. This problem only occurs on the production server. We have not made any changes (other than content on pages) to the production server in months and this issue just started happening today.

    Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas regarding this problem?

    Thanks,

    J.R. Garcia

    Hi J.R. Garcia,

    Since the sameproject works on one server and  does not on another  this is some configuration issue that comes from your server and not related to Sitefinity itself or our code. Most probably FormsAthentication and RoleManager modules does not trigger and this is why the request is not processed properly. You can find more details here: ASP.NET Integration With IIS 7.0. The other option could be application pool memory settings which causes the recycling and loosing the authentication
    data.

    Add the following line in your web.config in most of the cases this solves the problem ( the article above explains what the lines does)

    <system.webServer>

      <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true">

    If you run the project under VS web server does the problem persists? Can you try to recreate the website or the virtual directory and attach the same project once again?

    Ivan,

    The change suggested to the web.config did not change the behavior. The problem still exists.

    The problem only exists on the production server. It runs fine under Cassini (the VS web server) and all of our test servers. There have been no changes made to production though.

    Do you have any other suggestions? We are going to try a redeployment later today.

    Thanks,

    J.R. Garcia

    Hi J.R. Garcia,

    Make sure that forms authentication is enabled. This article may also help - Taking Advantage of the Integrated Pipeline  if you are running IIS. There is some configuration problem with your server. Compare the web.config files between staging and production.

    The problem was that authentication was set to Windows. Thanks for the help. Not sure how the mode changed. Strange things have happened with this host though. Thanks for your help, Ivan!
