    Hello,

I have been researching the method to move from development servers to production servers. Telekirk reps seem to direct everyone to the manuel migrating from development to production section but in the new manual this is missing. Does anyone have an old manual so i can read what the steps are?

    Thanks Chris

    Hello Chris Nieboer,

Please take a look in the Installation Guide. The section is moved there.
Our aim is to remove everything from the user manual which is not intended to be read by end users.

    Hello -

I have created a site locally and now want to deploy to a production server. I have multiple sites on the server, so I need the one I have created to be under it's own website (Webserver is Windows 2003 Server).

First, I have not yet purchased a license for Sitefinity. Can I even run it on a production server?

If so, do I run the installer on the server? I see in the manual: "To install Sitefinity on the production server, you have to run the distribution file as administrator. Once complete, the wizard will install the application in \Program Files\telerik\Sitefinity3.x by default."  The "distribution file" is what file?

Can I just publish the VS08 project and push that to the server without installing anything else?

Do I then make a backup of my local database (SQL 2008) and restore it on the production server?

Most of your documentation is very precise, but I find the instructions for deployment from Dev to Prod lacking.

    Thank you.

    Hi Patrick D,

Migration (deployment) of a Sitefinity website from development to production server is the same as for each website.

If you have a VPS or dedicated server you can run the installer , because you will  have needed  permissions. Otherwise you need to proceed with FTP. Backup of the database is required. After you backup your database you can restore it on the production.

Let us know if there is anything else that we can do for you.

    Ivan -

Thank you for your quick response.

I have followed the steps below. Please let me know where I've gone wrong. The server is Windows 2003 Server with SQL 2008.

    1. Downloaded the .Net 3.5 installer (full version after I purchased it) and run it on the server. This created a telerik virtual directory in the default site.
    2. Uploaded my entire website folder to the server under it's own website (not the default site).
    3. Backed up my local database and restored to the server.
    4. Created a new login on the server, added that to SQL, applied that user to the Website database with "Owner" permissions.
    5. Modified the connection settings in the web.config file to use the prod server sql name with the login I created in step 4, removing Integrated Security in the connection string.
    6. Tried using the IP address for the website I created (I do not have a URL yet, so I have to use an IP address - not sure if this will create a licensing issue)

I get a 403 page error when I try to connect. I'm sure I'm missing something, but not sure what?

    Thanks.
