I've created a site on my local machine (VS2008, SqlExpress 2005) and found a document outlining how to move this onto a shared hosting account.

Worked ok mostly, but a couple of questions.

    1)  I could not use the publishing wizard, it failed every time.  Had to publish to a file and then use Mgmt Console to connect to my DB and run the .SQL script.
    2)  The domain is not pointing at the root of my hosting account.  The domain is pointing at a subdirectory.  Couldn't find anything indicating whether this would work.
    3)  Created a userid / password to "maintain" the site while I was testing.  After uploading the site, the userid/password does nothing when I try to use it but doesn't display an error either:  www.firststepswithpets.com/sitefinity/admin/
    4)  The URL from #3 forwards to the Login page but the URL seems odd http://www.firststepswithpets.com/firststepswithpets/sitefinity/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2ffirststepswithpets%2fsitefinity%2fadmin%2f

So, I'm stuck at this point.

In an update to this, I'm investigating discountasp.net as a possible host.  They offer full trust as an option which would seem to clear up a lot of issues.

But would this also cause other issues that would require a dedicated hosting plan?

    Hello John White,

Thank you for contacting Telerik Support.

The recommended approach about publishing a website is to FTP a zip of the website and a back up of the database to your hoster. Also make sure that Forms Authentication is enabled for your website. We use this kind of authentication and probably this is why you were not able to log in. Could you please clarify about the URL? It looks as it should it has the return URL. Note that the %2 means encoding for / character.

    All the best,
    Radoslav Georgiev

I tried out DiscountASP.NET and got the site up and running almost immediately, dumping GoDaddy.

What's the trick to doing this? Anybody successfully running Sitefinity 3 or 4 on GoDaddy.com?

Is there a guidance document like the one Joseph Anderson wrote for DiscountASP.NET a long time ago?

    Hi John,

I guess it's been nearly a year since your last post. Please could you let me know what your experience has of DiscountASP.NET been?

Also, what is you daily throughput like? Does your site attract a large number of visits per day?

I'm keen to learn what your experience has been like and if there are any hidden issues that i could benefit from hearing about.

    Cheers,

    Kaine
