    Hello,

    We recently finished development on our new website and have now made it live.  We are trying to copy this website to another server to use as a separate development site.

    We duplicated the existing database and copied over the app directory, changed the web.config to point to the duplicate DB that we made, set it up as a new site, and tested it out and it works fine.  However, we cannot log into the site.  When logging into the Sitefinity admin page, if I enter in a bad username or password, it will tell me, but if I enter in a good username and password, it doesn't tell me its wrong, but it just throws me back to the login page instead of logging me in.  So it seems like it is authenticating me but its not logging me in (maybe an issue with cookies or something?)

    Also worth noting: we are hosting the membership tables on a separate db on another server.

    Hello Keith,

    1. Make sure that you use the same database
    2. If you run IIS7 or higher you can add
     runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests in the web.config.

    system.webServer/ modules

    <system.webServer>

      <modulesrunAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true">

    3. The problem could be some limitation on the Application pool that forces logout from the CMS due to application restart.

    4. Something clears the authentication cookie.

    Hi Ivan,

    1. So by saying use the same database, do you mean for membership or for the whole site? The idea was to have a separate DB so that we could make/change pages and content at will without disrupting the production site.  The web.config is still set to look at the same database for membership though.

    2. I am running IIS 6.

    3. The application pool settings look like they are identical on both sites.

    4. What could possibly be causing this? I suspect this might be the case, but when I run a copy on my local machine it works fine.

    Hello Keith,

    There is something on your server that stops the redirect.  Could you try to use your username and password and then try to access one of the modules or pages section directly to see whether you have been authenticated and just the redirect does not work.

    Kind regards,

    Hey Ivan,

    I tried logging in and then navigating to /Sitefinity/Admin/Pages.aspx directly, but it sent me back to the login page.

    Hello Keith,

    Then you are not authenticated  or the authentication cookie has been cleared. What you can try is running the project in Visual Studio and  put a break point inside Sitefinity/Login.aspx.cs Login1_Authenticate and Login1_LoggedIn events.

    Ivan,

    Neither the development nor the production site will not compile in visual studio.  Both sites are running in IIS.
    Also, if I copy the site to localhost and run it i get the same login issue.

    Hello Keith,

    Have you tried to narrow down the issue by running the project through Visual Studio web server and looking at Login1_Authenticate and Login1_LoggedIn events? The login form uses the standard ASP.NET Login control.

    Let me know how it goes.
