I finally got 3.7 installed (it has taken me two days of fixing errors). I had to enable anonymous access. If I didn't, it would ask for a username/password and wouldn't accept my Windows authentication. This seemed to fix the problem until I went to create a new project and received the following error message: Unable to create the virtual directory: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. Can you tell me, in plain language, how the heck to fix this???

Okay, with the help of my friend I figured that out and was finally able to create a new project and uncheck the anonymous access. At this point, however, I went to "go to administer the project"  and received a compilation error that looks like this:

    Compilation Error

Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific error details and modify your source code appropriately.

Compiler Error Message: CS1703: An assembly with the same identity 'System.Web.Extensions, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' has already been imported. Try removing one of the duplicate references.

    Hello Georgia,

Try removing the following line from your web.config

    <add assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35"/>

Clean the solution ( right click on the solution file and choose "Clean Solution"). Check your references from the GAC again. The MSDN says that  the same file exists in two places, or that you forgot to change the version number.

Thanks, Ivan. I actually think the problem was because I installed IIS after I had installed the framework, so it wasn't registering in IIS or other applications. I uninstalled the framework and then re-installed it, which removed THAT error, but produced a new one:

Server Error in '/Test Template' Application.

    Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'Telerik.Framework' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

    Source Error:

    Line 161: </eventMappings>
    Line 162: <providers>
    Line 163: <add name="Simple Web Event Provider" type="Telerik.Utilities.TextFileWebEventProvider,Telerik.Framework" logFileName="~/App_Data/sitefinity.log" />
    Line 164: <add name="Simple Web Buffered Event Provider" type="Telerik.Utilities.BufferedTextFileWebEventProvider,Telerik.Framework" bufferMode="Notification" logFileName="~/App_Data/sitefinity.log" />
    Line 165: <add name="Code Benchmark Provider" type="Telerik.Utilities.CodeBenchmarkTextFileProvider,Telerik.Framework" enabled="False" logFileName="~/App_Data/performance.log" />

    Source File: C:\Program Files\telerik\Sitefinity3.7\WebSites\First Template\web.config    Line: 163

Assembly Load Trace: The following information can be helpful to determine why the assembly 'Telerik.Framework' could not be loaded.

WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF.
To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1.
Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging.
To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog].

I'm a designer and not terribly techie. Could I be getting this error because I deleted the framework and then re-installed it? Do i need to re-install Sitefinity?

    Thanks,

    Georgia

    Hi Georgia,

    1. Check whether Telerik.Framework is in the bin folder and ASP.NET or NETWORK SERVICE account has full access over it.

    2. The issue could be a result of application inheritance when you have nested application. In this case you have to stop the web.config inheritance
