I've successfully installed the Community Edition blank project on my local server and now copying to a shared server enviroment I get this error message.

The bin folder is exactly as the one on the server where Sitefinity works.  However, I do notice that there is no file called Telerik.cms although there is one called telerik.cms.dll.  I imagine that they're the same.

    Server Error in '/sitefinity' Application.

    Hello Iain,

    Thank you for contacting us.
Please make sure you have Telerik.Cms.dll file located in the project bin directory. The file should be with the exact character case as showed.

    All the best,

    Georgi,

Thanks for your quick response.  The file you mentioned is in the bin directory and is spelled and capitalized as you wrote it.

However, I notice that in the web.config the reference to that file omits the .dll part.  I did try adding that and it didn't help, so I put it back to just Telerik.Cms in the web.config.

    Hello Iain,

Could you try to upload your bin folder again? The error says that that the assembly could not be located. It could be an ftp upload issue.

The record in web.config file looks fine - it should not have the .dll appended in the end, because it is defining the namespace rather than the assembly name.

Let us know about the results and the progress.

    Best wishes,

    Georgi,

I just reloaded the entire bin folder with a copy from my working instance on my test server.

I'm getting the same message.  The file size and date are right on the file.

    Hello Iain,

do you have ASP.NET Ajax installed on your remote server? ASP.NET Ajax is built in .NET 3.5, but it had to be manually installed on .NET 2.0 - I haven't heard of a hosting provider that hasn't done it yet, but this error could be caused by that.

Please contact your hosting provider and ask them whether they have ASP.NET Ajax installed. Let us know how it goes.

    The hosting provider said.

On all of our shared server AJAX as well as .net 3.5 are installed.

    Hi Iain,

Could you ensure that the asp.net worker process has permissions to the application bin directory? We do not see any other reason for the error - if the project is running fine locally, then the reason should be in the server configuration.

    Georgi,

They have just enabled write permissions on the bin folder, but still getting the same error.  Does it need to be restarted or something?

    Hi Iain,

We do not have any other ideas on why this error pops up. There must be something wrong with the configurations. The last thing we may offer you is a GoToMeeting session or remote desktop connection. We are located in Sofia, Bulgaria, GMT+2 and are available in work days, from 10am till 6pm.
Let us know if this is acceptable.

    Kind regards,
    Georgi

    Georgi,

I have just uploaded the SP and still have the same issue.  I'd like to take you up on your offer for a GotoMeeting.

Is there a day and time next week that works well for you to do so?

Thanks so much for the online help.  It is working fine now.

For others reading the thread the issue turned out to be having virtual directories set up where none were needed.

This is also for anyone else reading this thread...

    Here was my specfiic problem:

    Windows Vista (IIS7)

    Extracted the blankproject.zip.

Created Virtual Directory (App) in IIS.

For some reason I haven't been able to figure out, the Sitefinity folder will also get set as an application.  Once I removed the application from the Sitefinity folder, everything seemed to work fine.

Hello, I am getting this same error.  I have pushed the project to a production server (did not install Sitefinity) and the newly created website's Sitefinity folder is NOT set as an application.  Please help!  The Assembly Load Trace is:
WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF.
To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1.
Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging.
To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog].

I do note see an EnableLog entry for that key.... ??

    Susan,

The 2 issues I had were.

1 - give write access to the ASPNET process in the bin folder
2 - don't have any folders set as an app in IIS

If you're in shared hosting they might not want to do the logging setting for you.  In any case, I got that same message and didn't need to do it.

    Hope that helps.

    Hello Susan,

Could you please send us your Sitefinity.log file, located in the App_Data directory? It should contain more information about the actual problem.

    Best wishes,
