I am trying to install Sitefinity on a Windows 2003 server. I want to install it in a location other than the default web site. I followed the instructions in the KB article (adding the appsettings entry in the web.config in the ProjectsManager folder) but the telerik virtual directory is still under the default web site and not the web site I want it to be in. When I go to launch Sitefinity it still tries to load to http://localhost which I don't want it to do. I want it to go to sitefinity.mydomainname.com.

If anyone could help I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Hello Frank,

Usually, the project is loaded by "http://localhost/mynewwebsite/home.aspx". If you want to remove http://localhost/ from your server request and open your project directly from a domain, you need to configure your IIS Manager and make some additional changes to localhost mappings.

Here is what you have to do

1.Create a new site using IIS Manager.
    2. In the 'Add new website" dialog fill all fields(website name, path etc) and specify the desired host name that you want to use. ( for instance : mynewwebsite.com as a host header).
    3. Browse to  "[WindowsDirectory]\System32\drivers\etc\ ".

There you will find a file called "hosts". The file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. You can edit this file using a text editor.

    Add these lines:

    127.0.0.1       localhost
    127.0.0.1       mynewwebsite
    ::1             localhost

    4. Save and test.
In order to make changes under /System32/  you need to be a computer administrator.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks for your response.

I know how to set up separate websites in IIS and edit the hosts file.

My question is how come when you initially install Sitefinity you can't specify where the project manager is located? It just installs it under the default site without giving you an option. I really didn't want it there. I am able to install my projects under different websites, but I would have liked to have the option of choosing where the project manager is installed.

    Hello Frank,

Initially the default folder for Sitefinity Project Manager cannot be changed. You could create a separate website via IIS and specify the path to the Sitefinity Project Manager. Thus, the new sites will be automatically created under the new folder and they will be outside of your IIS Default Web Site.

    Kind regards,
