I run my own web server for my business that is setup to be a shared hosting environment.  I manage the server and all my clients using Plesk 9.2.  I've been doing a lot of research and work on getting Sitefinity deployed only using Plesk and FTP (as if I was a client who could not RDP).  Yesterday, I successfully did this in under 10 minutes.  Most of the time was spent waiting on files to transfer.

Would it be helpful to write up a guide outlining steps specific to Plesk 9.x and Sitefinity deployment?  If so, I'd love to do this.

    Hi Ryan,

It will be a great if you can do this. You can write the steps and post them here or send a word file to us that will be transferred to some type of article. Once you are ready and we reviewed the outlined steps we will update your Telerik points.

    All the best,

Ryan im using daily razor and they have recently upgraded to plesk 9.2, Im unable to access sitefintiy/admin once deployed.  I get the login page it authenticates and throws me back to the login page.  Forms Authentication is enabled and all works on my local host.

    BSDOTNET,

Once I get my guide completely finished I hope that will be a good help to you.  Until then, here are a few tips I have observed.

First step for me was to establish the database entirely in the Plesk Control Panel.  I created the database, created a database user, and then modified the Web.Config of the Sitefinity application to reflect the connection string for this database.

Second, I followed the guide at http://www.sitefinity.com/documents/InstallationGuide_3_7.pdf.  There are a few tweaks to the web.config that you need to make when deploying to a shared environment. The following is an excerpt from that document.

    you need to turn off

    healthMonitoring:

<healthMonitoring enabled="false" heartbeatInterval="0"> Third, you need to turn off page and module workflow allowPageWorkflow="false" allowWorkflow="False"

Make sure the following lines are commented out:

    <!‐‐add name="SitefinityXml" securityProviderName="" type="Telerik.Lists.Data.XmlProvider,

    Telerik.Lists.Data" dataFile="~/App_Data/Lists.xml" visible="true" /‐‐>

Finally, you need to set the appropriate IUSR accounts in to have create and modify permissions on your application directory - be it root or a subfolder.

This is a very rough run down.  My guide will be detailed with step by step screenshots.

    Thanks for your help ryan,

I recently went through an upgrade process with DailyRazor to the latest version of plesk they have turned off the backup and restore feature to sql via the admin console due to perfrmance issues.  You must either upload the database as a support request or use sql management tools and script out the database making sure you select the include data option.   Its actually quite quick but not really a simple process.  Id be more than happy to run through your documentation on my hosting provider before you publish if you like.

Sure.  When it is ready I will shoot it your way.  I'm going to setup a couple of different scenarios and run through it myself multiple times in each scenario so I can capture as many details as possible.  It might be the first of the year before it is ready.

Any tips on configuring the smtp settings, when i click test it simply hangs then times out.  Ive deleted the dll that gets created in the /Sitefinity/ServiceAssemblies/ folder but im still unable to configure smtp.  Daily Razor only allow local host with no credentials so that wont work and ive tried to go via smtp.gmail.com with pop enabled  still with no luck.

    Hello BSDOTNET,

If you are talking for Sitefinity backend, you are able to configure the SMTP settings for Newsletters module only in FullTrust. The Newsletters module SMTP setting are persisted in the database and it is not possible to manage them through project's web.config file.

    Kind regards,

Any update on making this step-by-step document available?  I will be deploying a sitefinity site to plesk shortly and this sounds like it could be extremely helpful.

    Thanks,
    Jacob

I apologize.  I've been busy with the holidays and moving.  I'll see if I can escalate this on my schedule and get this done quickly.
