    Hi!

I create a site and now I want to deploy it on my server. I copy my site to wwwroot directory and configure Default Web Site. But I am getting errors when I work in sitefinity admin interface. When I click Publish page in edit mode I'm getting error.

Can you write me how I should deploy my site after development?

    Hi Paul,

The deployment is described in our UserManaual, section Migrating Projects to the Production Web Server. It will be good if you share the error you are getting. Thus we will be able to provide you more detailde information about the possible reasons for the issue you have.

    Error text:

Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\App_Data\Search\All-site\Index\_dd.fnm' is denied.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\App_Data\Search\All-site\Index\_dd.fnm' is denied.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.

To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

    Hello Paul,

Grant read- write permissions to App_Data folder and \Index\ folder that is located in the same root. Index folder collects data for your index services. Every time you create an index a new folder there is crated.

    Hello Nitesh Rastogi,

    1. Backup the project and your database.
    2. Use FTP to upload your project and database backup to the production server.
    3. Restore the backup to your production server.
    4. Open project's web.cconfig and change the connectionString settings to point to the production server.

Run your website. You can also take a look at our Installation Guide section Migrating the Database.

    Hi ivan,

As per my understanding i will be creating a website in the 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot of the server and paste all the content of the site at my local machine. And accordingly make changes in the web.config for the connection string.

    Please confirm.

    Hello Nitesh Rastogi,

Generally these are the steps. You also need to restore or attach your current database to the production Database Server.

    Hello Amrit Chauhan,

Please take a look in our Installation Guide - Deploying to production server section. Generally, everything that should be done is moving the physical files, backup-restore the site from the first server to the second, and finally changing the connection string.

Let me know if you face any problems though.

    Sincerely yours,
    Georgi

    Hi !

I am deploying my SIteFinity Community Edition web-site on a third party web-hosting service. I followed the instructions in the User Manual for such a deployment. (Note: I have not done anything specific with the database other than copy the SiteFinity.mdf file to the App_Data folder on the remote server location). However, when I click on my  web-site link: http://www.indianphilosophicalcongress.in/cms I get the 'Under Construction' page of Sitefinity. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks, Mahesh

    Hello Indian Philosophical Congress,

Make sure that the website home page is set from the backend. If the home page for the website is not we, you get the default document from the project's root displayed.

    Hi Ivan:

Sorry, if this question sounds stupid but how do you "Make sure that the website home page is set from the backend"?
As per the documentation I have read so far, there is not need to install Sitefinity on the production server. In that case, how would I be able to set the Homepage?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Ivan:

It seems I have not explained my position correctly. I developed a web-site on my local machine using SitefinityCommunityEdition. The home page was set on it. When I use the link
    http://localhost/SitefinityCommunityEdition/IPCHome.aspx, I see my web-site correctly.

Now I wanted to deploy this on the production server.

    I did the following:
Step1: I installed a fresh copy of SitefinityCommunityEdition on the production server i.e. I copied the default files of SitefinityCommunityEdition under wwwroot\cms & then using the link http://indianphilosophicalcongress.in/cms, I went thru the steps of accepting the license agreement, giving the prod server database details, etc etc upto the point of logging in as admin to see the Sitefinity Dashboard.
Step 2: Now, I copied the files & folders of my local web-site under SitefinityCommunityEdition to the server under wwwroot\cms. I overwrote the existing default folders (App_Data, App_Master, etc).
Now, when I use the link http://indianphilosophicalcongress.in/cms, I get the 'Under Construction' page.

    Can you please help?

    Hello Indian Philosophical Congress,

You have to FTP your local files and restore a database backup on the production server.

    Hi Ivan:

Yes, I have already FTPed all my files to the production server. Which database do I need to restore? Is it Sitefinity.mdf or the database I registered when installing Sitefinity (named ipc.mdf)? Actually, my web-site does not use require any database features, so do I still need to restore the database?

    Thanks,
    Mahesh

    Hi Ivan:

Thanks for your help! I have managed to deploy my project on the production successfully.

There is only one problem. On the production machine, all the Sitefinity files are located in: indianphilosophicalcongress.in\wwwroot\cms. Therefore, my web-site opens with the link http://indianphilosophicalcongress.in/cms. I would like to open the web-site with the link http://indianphilosophicalcongress.in/.

If I move all the files under the cms folder (one level up) to the wwwroot folder, will this fix the problem? Do I need to change any other configuration files?

    Thanks, Mahesh

    Hello Indian Philosophical Congress,

Yes, you can move all website files from /cms sub-directory to the root of you website, or go to the IIS Management tool and in the properties page for your website you have to change the physical path. From wwwroot to wwwroot/cms. Both approaches should work.

    Hello Sarah Masood,

You should use FTP server to migrate the files. If you have RDP you can use Copy/Paste. The bin folder is about 40 MB unzipped.

    Hello Sarah Masood,

You can zip up the website directory and ftp the zip file. Then extract the archive from the production server. These steps are common for other ASP.NET websites too. In our next version we will provide a feature to handle this with the click of one button.

    Kind regards,
