I am working in a development/production server environment and I am trying to figure out what all directories (or specific files) I need to upload in order for my pages to work correctly on my production server.  I know that I need to upload all user controls and page related files (images, etc), but I am trying to figure out if I have to upload my web.config file every time and if I need to upload any files from the SiteFinity, Bin or App_Data (log) directory also?

    Hi medicalwebgeek,

First, you need to upload the whole project folder to the destination server. Later, you will need to upload only the files which have been modified.
Please find the needed instructions in this section of the User Manual:  Working with Web Site Projects > Migrating Projects to the Production Web Server.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you need any assistance.

I have a similar problem.  I want to run Sitefinity on our intranet, and then deploy updates to servers running on the Internet.  From the documentation it seems as though I have to do that by hand, copying files up to the production server.  Is that right?  Is there no facility in the workflow for deploying files to a production server?  If not, I'm guessing that we will need to develop a module to do that.

I guess I have the same question for the database.  I need to be able to push changes to the production server as pages are published through the workflow.  I've ready through the User Manual:  Working with Web Site Projects > Migrating Projects to the Production Web Server, but it doesn't really seem clear if Sitefinity does that, and if so how it is configured.

    Hi Robert,

Unfortunately, the automatic synchronization between multiple sites is not yet supported. This feature is planned for version 3.2 which is expected in mid December.

As a temporary solution, you can use some third party FTP tool that allows automatic synchronization of files and database replication for database synchronization.

I have been trying to match a domain name to a project with no success; I've read many times references to this being covered under Migrating Projects to the Production Web Server in the user manual - could you PLEASE either post an example of configuring IIS to use a domain name mapped to a specific project or put a link to this manual (the one in the install dir has no such entry in it!)

    Hi Stuart Radlett,

    Thank you for your feedback.

I agree that we should have such section in the User Manual - we will to update it as soon as possible.

Locally this should be setup as an additional entry in the hosts file, or creating a new web site pointing to the same files. All that Sitefinity cares is, where does the request comes from.

On live environment, additional host header should be added, so the web site could be resolved under the new domain.

Once again, we will try to update this docs and provide examples on the scenario.

    All the best,

    Georgi

    Hello Ahmed Salman,

The section is called "Deploying Sitefinity to a production server" and it should be on page 208.
