    Hi Pieter,

Could you share what your development environment is (.NET version, IIS version, OS version, browser version)? Have you been able to create new web-sites before? Also, which version of Sitefinity do you use?

The answers to these questions will help us locate the problem.

We have seen this error before and we were able to pinpoint several different reasons for it:

    • Our controls are ASP.NET controls and in order to use them you need to have .NET Framework installed on the hosting machine. If the framework is not present, this error may appear
    • Another possible reason is that the .NET Framework is configured improperly or is damaged.
    • Most probably, however, your IIS is not properly configured to use ASP.NET. In general, this configuration is made by the .NET Framework installation wizard, but sometimes it fails. We had such a problem on one of our PCs. Unfortunately, this issue is not related to our controls, thus the only solution I can give is to uninstall the framework only (not VS2005, if you are using it) and install it again. This solution worked for a lot of our clients and for me as well. In addition, you may check the following MS article:

    My configuration :
     - Windows XP pro + sp2
     - IIS 5.1
     - .NET framework 1.1.4322 and 2.0.50727
     - IE 6.0.2900.2180
     - Visual studio 2005 pro
     - SiteFinity v 2.5

All new websites based on Self-contained CMS projects don't work.
New websites based on Bare Projects work without any problem.

    Hi Pieter,

It is hard to figure out this without being there. Could you try something else for us, please? We need to find whether ASP.NET is running for this web application. Open IIS management console and find the application folder, open its properties and select the ASP.NET tab. You should see ASP.NET version (see screenshot attached). Let us know what you see.

    Thanks. It works.

Each time I create a new website, the ASP.NET setting in de IIS is blank. After I change this to version 1.1.4322 the website works.
