    Hi,

    Is it possible to add extra fields to each image in an Image Gallery? I want to use the Image Gallery to display all the persons working in a company and displaying the Name and the Position per person!!

    Kind regards,  Patrick

    Hi Patrick Julicher,

    It is possible. Here are the steps you should follow

    1. You have to map the external template LibraryItemEdit.ascx and LibraryItemBatchEdit.ascx. - How to map an external template

    2. Then you have to create custom metakeys which you have to use to show data you want to see.

    3. Then you have to modify the public templates for the desired mode that ImageGalley control is going to use and add controls that will represent your metadata added from the backend.

    You can  also use Rad Binary Image for ASP.NET AJAX

    Hi Ivan,

    When I try to perform Step 1 I get the following error:

    The 'viewMap' start tag on line 3 does not match the end tag of 'viewSettings'. Line 6, position 258.

    I simplt copied the provided code from the link and edited it to map the 2 suggested templates.
    Any solution?

    Gr, Patrick

    Hi Patrick Julicher,

    The ControlsConfig xml is not well formed at your end. You have missed a closing tag as the error says.

    Ivan,

    I only copied the code from the link you provided:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    <controlsConfig>
      <viewMap>
        <!-- Insert a new news item template -->
        <viewSettings hostType="Telerik.News.WebControls.Admin.NewsItemNew"
    layoutTemplatePath="~/Sitefinity/Admin/ControlTemplates/News/NewsItemNew.ascx"
        </viewSettings>
      </viewMap>
    </controlsConfig>

    After removing the Telerik.Sitefinity.Configuration.ControlsConfig.xml file from the Configuration folder, the error still appears. I cannot log into Sitefinity anymore!!!!

    Hello Patrick Julicher,

    It seems that you have not restarted the application as suggested in the KB and the applications keeps using the wrong settings.

    Hi Ivan,

    Sorry, but in the KB I cannot find any reference to restarting the application: http://www.sitefinity.com/support/kb/sitefinity-3-x/how-to-map-a-view-to-an-external-template-in-sitefinity-3-6-or-later.aspx

    I have restarted the application multiple times, even with the XML file deleted. It keeps coming up with an error and now neither Sitefinity nor the website are working. How can I force the correct settings to be used?

    Ivan,

    I found it is necessary to remove the Configuration folder also, to remove the incorrect settings. Will try again!

    Hi Ivan,

    It seems everything is now OK with the mapped templates. Continuing with step 2 I feel so dumb but have to ask anyway. You say "Then you have to create custom metakeys which you have to use to show data you want to see."
    Can you explain how to do this, the creation of the custom metakeys? Sorry, but I'm learning!

    Regards,  Patrick

    Hi,

    I managed to map the external templates and get the Metakeys to appear when trying to edit an Image. When I try to add data to the fields, and go into editing the image again, nothing appears in the new fields. It seems as if nothing is changed or nothing is shown.

    Also, when I edit the template for the Image Gallery nothing appears. What would be the correct code for having a metakey appear on the template showing the Gallery?

    Best regards,  Patrick

    Hi Patrick Julicher,

    Make sure that the metakeys you have added are located inside ContentMetaFields control.

    Hi Ivan,

    Sorry, but I'm not quit sure what you mean. Is this something else then what is mentioned in the Manual:

    1. Open the project web.config file and in the <metaFields> collection, add this code:

    2. In the <libraryInfo> section, add
    Caption to metaKeys:

    3. Add this code to the XML file:

    These are the steps I followed exactly....

    Best regards,  Patrick
