After spending about one daying trying to do this I wanted to pass along some pointers that were killing us and hopefully save someone else the pain we endured :)

    1. You need to create your web user control in a Web Site project type NOT a Web Application project type.
** NOTE: this is most important and is not documented anywhere!  In order for the code behind file
to work the HTML header markup needs to say CodeFile not CodeBehind.

    2. You need to upload the code file using the 2nd file upload input box.  This may seem obvious to some
people but the message you get when you upload the ascx file and the fact that it does not validate
that the 2nd input has a value would prevent the code behind file from actually being uploaded at all.

    3. If you are accessing DLLs or .NET libraries that does not exist on the Sitefinity server or in the BIN
directory then you will have compile time errors.

    Hello Alfred Pena,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I believe that it will be useful to the other Sitefinity members

Just to clarify some of the points.

Yes, you need to create web site project not web application. We do not distribute Sitefinity as a web application although it can be converted.

If you cannot find any references to the external controls, dlls etc, you can add reference to them.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Mr. Robinson,

Sitefinity can work with every user and custom asp.net control. You can find simple Rad control under Sitefinity/UserControls/Navigation35.

You can gather more information from RadControls developers manual, MSDN Web Forms user controls

    All the best,
