    Hi

I'm trying to understand how the site menu styling works. I've downloaded the blank project, and in the "\app_themes\blue with right sidebar\" folder there is a file called RadMenu.skin. In here the RadMenu element has a skin property of "SitefinityBlue". I can also see a \Menu subfolder containing some images and a styles.css file (where the menu styles are).

What I'm not sure about is: how does the framework know to look in this \Menu subfolder to find the RadMenu styles?

Also, I can see in "styles.css" various styles called RadMenu_SitefinityBlue... I'm assuming this naming convention is something specific to how RadMenu styling works?

Also, in Sitefinity, the "appearance" property section of the site menu has a few properties: "Skin", "SelectedItemCSSClass", "CssClass". What part do these play in styling the site menu?

Finally, how would I go about styling the Site Menu to change the style of the "active" menu item (i.e. the one that corresponds to the current page)?

Apologies for all the questions but I'm finding the styling of Sitefinity quite a daunting area!

    Thanks in advance
    Andy

    Hi again

Please ignore previous post as I've managed to find the answers to most of my questions, in the documentation for the Telerik RadMenu control.

I'm still not sure what the "Skin" and "CssClass" properties (in Sitefinity) for the Site menu are though (but I worked out what the "SelectedItemCSSClass" is and where to use it).

One other question - I now know where to find styling documentation for Telerik controls such as the site menu (RadMenu), but where is the best place to look for styling the other Sitefinity modules such as blogs, news and events? I'm sure I can just use something like the IE developer toolbar or Firebug to figure out the styles, but are they documented somewhere?

    Thanks again
    Andrew

ok     You didn't answer your answers to your questions.   I've trying to see the relationship between the styles.css in the Menu folder to what is being rendered.

I copied one of the themes and renamed it.  I can change any of the primary styles, but I need to get the spacing changed.  between the parent menu item and the child entry that opens up below the parent.

Rick, this is where the menu css documentation is: http://www.telerik.com/help/aspnet-ajax/menu_appearancecssselectors.html
I also found the IE developer toolbar (or Firebug) useful for figuring out some of the styles.

I'm not great with css so it's been a case of trial-and-error when trying to tweak some of the settings.

    Hello Andrew,

As you have noticed we use a custom skin, not one of the default skins. So I suggest that you should check the following article to understand how to make a custom skin for RadMenu - http://www.telerik.com/help/aspnet-ajax/menu_appearancecreatingacustomskin.html.
