Kendo UI dropdownlist cascading issue - Sitefinity - Front- & Back-End Development

I’m running into an issue with the Kendo UI dropdown list control right now. As can be seen in the screenshots attached the State dropdown is enabled but empty, County is disabled and empty, but MSA shows the value in the source. When a state is chosen MSA loses its default value as well despite still being disabled. The desired result is that County and MSA show their default values until they are enabled, is this possible with the built in cascading functionality or do I need to hook the cascade event on the parent controls and update the children myself?
