    Hi

    I created a blog and in the settings I give a .aspx page as the Blog Page. What is this used for - I would think this was for the site users to enter their blog posts. Is there a way to enter blogs without using the modules/blogs page?

    Thanks

    Kalpana

    Hi Kalpana,

    There is a property for the BlogPost public control called "" when ever you select that property the BlogPost control will redirect post details to the page specified when you created the blog.

    There is a way to post content items without entering Sitefinity.

    1. Using Windows Live Writer and Telerik.Blogs.MetaWeblog.MetaWeblogHandler
    2. Creating a Sitefinity page and use ContentManager to create a new content item.

      protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
        {
            ContentManager contentManager = new ContentManager("Blogs");
            // create an empty content
            IContent newContent = contentManager.CreateContent("text/html");
            newContent.Content = "Here is my custom content here"
            // set meta keys for the content item.
            newContent.SetMetaData("Title", Title1.Text);
            ...
              ...
           //save the content
            contentManager.SaveContent(newContent);
        }

    newContent.SetMetaData("Title", Title1.Text)

    Here we are passing the values from a TextBox control with ID="Title1"

    Sincerely yours,
    Nikolai

    Thanks Nikolai, I will look int to it.

    In the meantime I have another issue when I view the blogs. The user manual suggested two controls -Single Post control and Post List controls. I dont see either of them when I edit the page. So I used Blog Post control. I picked the list view and when I click on a post to see the 'full story' - it throws an error since it doesnt find the page blogpage/09-02-26/Test_Blog.aspx. I used the setting autogenerate blog page but that didnt help.

    Thanks.

    Hello Kalpana,

    As you may have noticed, the user manual is a bit outdated. We are working on the problem. Here are the updated excerpts about the blogs module controls:

    ·         the correct short summary of controls is:

    o   BlogPosts – Displays a list of blog posts or a single post.

    o   Archive – displays archive of content (I didn’t get how to use this properly)

    o   Bloggers – shows the author property of a blog (effectively listing all blogs)

    o   Calendar – shows a calendar (didn’t get how to synchronize it with BlogPosts)

    The instructions on how to create a blog page are wrong. The basic instructions could go like that:

    1.       Go to Pages->Site Map

    2.        In the site map, click to select the page where you want to insert the BlogPosts control

    3.       Click Edit This Page (or Edit this Language Version)

    4.       Expand Add Controls->Blogs if necessary

    5.       Drag & Drop the BlogPosts control where you want it

    6.       Hover the mouse over it, and click edit Edit

    Follow the Step-By-Step wizard to configure the look and behaviorconfigure blog post

    Generally when you drag and drop blog posts control on the page it shows all blogs. By default when you link on an item link you are automatically redirected to ListPageDeatail mode.

    All the best,

    Thanks.

    I am trying to implement the BlogControl Nikolai suggested earlier in the thread. I am not very clear on how I would implement that. Can you please give me some more details. I am currently using 3.6

    Thanks.

    Hello Kalpana,

    If you want to use "Redirect to an associated blog page"  you can do the following.

    1. Create a Blog with posts. You can set its BlogPage as one of your pages where you  want to associate your blogs. For instance ~/AssociatedPageForBlogs.aspx

    2. Then create a page, let's say BlogPosts.aspx and drop BlogPosts control there. Select which blog you want to display though the control designer and then under settings select Redirect to an associated blog page radio button.

    Thus when you try to open your post from  http://host/BlogPosts.aspx instead of having the default url that will be generated (http:/host/BlogPosts/05-03-09/MyPostNameHere.aspx) you will be redirected to http://host/AssociatedPageForBlogs/05-03-05/MyPostNameHere.aspx

    As for the second suggestion for posting outside of the admin are you should create a form and set the metafields from textbox controls.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards,
    Ivan Dimitrov
