    Hi Guys,

I have created some categories using the standard category module.  I have then created some generic content items which also have some custom metafields added which allow the user to set extra categories.  These categories could be used for anything, in my case I'm using these to help build custom navigation.

The issue I have is that if you update (change the category name) the category, this change isn't reflected in the generic content items.  I would have expected that if you update the category name, this change would be cascaded to all generic content items that have this category set, however the metafield keeps the old text value of the category name.

I think there is a reference to the category by id, because if you edit the generic content item the correct category is displayed in the category drop down, however unless you resave the generic content item the metafield isn't updated.

Is this correct behaviour and is there anyway around this behaviour?

    Thanks is advance
    Mark

    Hello Mark,

Where exactly the category name is not updated. When I update the category name and then preview an item from the backend the category name is correctly set.

The public control - CategoriesTree uses caching, so  have in mind that the application should be restarted/

Before you click "edit this item" for a generic content item, you can see details abuot the content item i n the RHS of the screen, the category name set here isn't updated after you update a category.  As I said in my previous post, I also have some custom metafields and these also do not display the updated value.  If I perform an IISRESET this value still doesn't get updated.  If I click "edit this item" I can see that the correct category is selected in the category drop down, however unless I press "save changes" the metafield display in the details doesn't get updated.  I though it would.  So, I'm just wondering if this is expected behaviour?

    Hello Mark,

I could not replicate this issue with the latest SP of Sitefinity 3.x - SP4. I attached a short video.
