I am fairly new to Sitefinity development and was unable to find a good answer to this question in any of the threads currently.
In one of our custom modules it would be very handy to be able to either:
    A) When you want to make changes to many records in the List View be able to edit right in the grid instead of having to go thru all of the steps involved with selecting, editing, etc. for each record
    or...
    B) When you want to make changes to many records in the List View be able to click on a row and have the editable details displayed in the same view below the grid.  Basically a parent-child.
With both of these scenarios we are just trying to minimize what has to be done when needing to update many records one right after the other.

    Hi Bill,

there is nothing preventing you from doing any of the two given scenarios. For the first scenario you can take advantage of the RadGrid control which comes with Sitefinity. More on in place editing with control you can find here:
    http://www.telerik.com/help/aspnet-ajax/grdeditmodeinplace.html

The second approach can be achieved as well, but RadGrid comes with built-in functionality for complex editing and I think it may prove to be a better choice. You can see an example together with the code for this here:
    http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-ajax/controls/examples/integration/grideditors/defaultcs.aspx

I hope you'll find this information helpful. Let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.

    Sincerely yours,
    Ivan

Do any of the core Sitefinity modules use "in place editing"?

Currently we are using a gridview and not a RadGrid...is this still possible?

    Hi Bill,

we are not using in-place editing since our UX department concluded it is not appropriate for our scenarios.

Standard ASP.NET GridView control does support in-place editing, however it is severely limited and cannot really compare to the features offered by RadGrid. Nevertheless, you can find more about default in-place editing in GridView here:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/czzytf25.aspx

I hope you will find this information helpful. Let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.

    Greetings,
