    Hi there,

I'm interested in making minor adjustments to the News module in Sitefinity 3.7, adjusting it so that it's capable of managing Job listings. This would largely involve modifying field labels in the backend management system.

Is it possible to duplicate the News module to do this?

    Cheers,

    Steve

    Hi Steve .,

You can just create a new provider for News and modify it. Please check this webinar.

Thanks Ivan - great exactly what I needed.

One more question (keep in mind I'm new to Sitefinity!) - is it possible to set up a search form that specifically searches additional META fields added to a new News Provider?

E.g. I've replicated the News Provider as per the webinar, and would like to create a search capable of searching content between two date fields. e.g. Find 'news' containing "xxx" between "01/01/2009" and "01/01/2011".

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Steve .,

This will require to create a custom index provider and filter the content you want inside GetContentToIndex() method by using GetContent  overloads.

You can take a look at Implementing Search Results, Working with Sitefinity search

This will allow you to index only certain subset of news items. Another option is implementing custom search results control. Please take a  look at this post - Search result sort by date
