I am trying to develop my first pluggable module based on the generic content module. I have read the two items in the online manual, and have been working with the Products sample module.

I like deployment with embedded templates and would like to embed mine. So.... I'm a little at a loss as to how to do this.

I've read Ivan Osmak (sp?)'s blog on 3.6 beta (circa Jan 2009) that includes a Books sample module that uses embedded templates. And the sample files are great. Except that the Products sample from the online help has some major differences. In the Products module, CommandPanel and ControlPanel inherit from CommandPanelBase and ControlPanelBase respectively. Whereas in the Books sample they inherit from ViewModeControl and implement an interface for the command or control panel. Without the LayoutTemplatePath from ViewModeControl I'm not seeing how I map the templates....

Not to seem like a moron, but I've hit the point where I suspect it'd be faster to ask the question than to continue being frustrated as I figure it out little bit by little bit.

    Thanks in advance.....

    Jules

    Hi Julia Essex,

The online help samples refers implementation before 3.6 where we do not use embedded templates. In versions before 3.6 all templates are added in the Sitefinity project. From 3.6 we have embedded almost all templates into the dlls. If you are going to crate a module with projects that runs under 3.6 or 3.7 version I suggest that you take a look at these samples - New backend architecture. The post are migrate to our Developer Manual (CHM, 12 MB)

I know it is a bit confusing, so let me know if you have any further questions.

    All the best,

That was better. I'm not an idiot, but I'm sure feeling like one. This version of the developer manual was better, but I'm finding it disjointed and can't quite figure how to string it all together.

I'm trying to build a personnel directory module in 3.7 that uses categories, tagging, and stores a link to a photo for each person.

Can anyone (or Telerik) recommend a step-by-step guide (or a human one) that will help me walk through building a generic-content module-based module?

    Hello Julia Essex,

You could take a look at Sample pluggable module: Contacts pluggable module .
The whole architecture and API is described with samples in the manual that I send you. If you get stuck with some implementation, let me know.

    Sincerely yours,
    Ivan Dimitrov
