I have installed Sitefinity 3.6 Standard using manual installation.
Everything looks fine until I click on Modules link.
    I got the following error:

Stack Trace: /r/nError: The server method 'GetContentItems' failed./r/nStatus Code: 403/r/nException Type: /r/nTimed Out: false

Could anybody please help me how to solve this problem?
The website is going to go live soon.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Ivan,

Does this happen every time or randomly? The error could be thrown if you are clicking on the items before completed Page_Load(), therefore you are getting that GetContentItems  method that gets the content items has failed.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Ivan,

I am not able to reproduce the problem using IE 7. It can be reproduced if you click too fast between tabs in FF or Chrome browsers ( it is a bug), but it shold not occure whent the page has been loaded. The problem is related to binding of RadGrid and getting the content items.
I have tested using Sitefintiy 3.6 standard edition build 1936. If the problem persists send us your project for debugging.  You can open a bug report with 20 mb attachment allowed or provide us with an external link from where we can download the project. If you have live link to a dev server you can also send it to us.

I have already send you our project for debugging through bug report with login information to the server. Are you able to help us on this?
This case should be closed A.S.A.P. since we are going to employ it in the production server soon.
    Please assist.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello Nick,

We are using a WebServices to call GetContentItem. The problem could be related to your server firewall, proxy or some kind of VPN security that blocks the services.

    Hi Ivan,

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately i was unable to find a solution based on that information as there is no proxy or vpn.  The problem occurs when i run the site using local iis, when i run it using visual studio it works fine so i cant see the firewall being an issue.  Can you think of what local iis would be blocking or would need permissions to use.

    Thanks

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Can you please show us the status code of the error? A screenshot of the message will help as well. The issue than IvanG was having, was related to a proxy server blocking the request.
You can use a tool like Fiddler for example to inspect all requests when you access the modules, and check the response when the request is made to the ContentService.asmx

    Hi Georgi,

Thanks for your reply, below is the response back from contentservice.asmx.  The response the user sees is a Windows Internet Explorer dialog box which reads.... Stack Trace: /r/nError: The server method 'GetContentItems' failed./r/nStatus Code: 405/r/nException Type: /r/nTimed Out: false

I think Ivan's error was 403 whereas this is 405, i hope this helps.

    Thanks

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Could you tell us whether you use IIS 5 or IIS 6? There is an asp.net issue related to the handlers.

    Hello Nick,

It is asp.net problem related IIS 5 accessing web services. The only fix here is upgrading IIS version and your windows to the last Service Pack.

    Hi Ivan,

I've worked out what is causing the error i'm not sure if upgrading to iis 6 or the latest service pack will work though.  Basically i had setup a wildcard application mapping in iis so for example http://website/home.aspx could be just http://website/home  Unfortunatly this was filtering through to the admin folder so when the webservice was called using ContentService.asmx/GetContentItems .net was looking for a file called GetContentItems instead of calling that method in ContentService.asmx.

Do you know if this works in iis 6 or 7, or if there is a way to make it work in iis 5?

    Thanks

    Nick

    Hello Nick,

As you can see from the stack trace,  IIS 5 uses DefaultHttpHandler instead System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions. I am pretty sure that you will not be able to get the WebServices working in II5.

    Hi Guys,

I'm using iis 7 and getting the same error in the generic content module. Any luck on finding a solution?

Nevermind, I fixed it. The site was using classic app pool. Switching to integrated took care of the issues.

    thanks
