I'm trying to evaluate frameworks to develop a site in for a company [man, never thought I'd have to make one of these posts, hehe] and I need a few points clarified, examples provided - mostly so I don't have to stumble around blindly trying things for a few days, as I got the notice today and need a decision ... tomorrow. Yay me!

How well does SiteFinity do in mobile browsers? We'll assume 'full' browsers, such as the iPhone [that was an example given to me].

How flexible are the permissions in sitefinity? The thing I'm maininly looking for is module level custom permissions. Not roles, but permissions for the module to assign roles to.
I come from a DotNetNuke background and I can add custom permissions that can have individuals or roles assigned to them for my module, does this ability exist in site finity? I have to assume so, since I see things like blog and forum available; but I'd like to see some code samples on how to implement and consume the custom permissions.

Are any telerik licences included with sitefinity, even if just usable in sitefinity? We're looking to use ASP.NET AJAX controls as well as silverlight [such as the map and chart], would a seperate licence be needed for those?

How is developing a module compared to DNN [for anyone that knows]? I'm not concerned about "oh it's easier/harder" - more about the ability to use all of the .NET framework, as I can in DNN. I want to make sure I'm unrestricted in what my module can do programatically.

I think that's all for now.

    Thanks

    Hi Baatezu,

Sitefinity is build as a website application and out of the box we do not ship mobile themes for 3.x edition. Security is based on standard ASP.NET Membership, Role and Profile providers. The permissions are based on roles - you have a role of users and you set the permissions for this role. For pages there are granular permissions, so you can set permissions per page. For modules you set the permissions for the whole provider per role.

Here are several posts that explain how the permissions work

You can use RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX in Sitefinity context ( Telerik.Web.UI.dll is added to the bin folder) without getting a trial messages. For Silverlight controls you need to purchase additional license.

Here are several links that explains how to create a custom modules. Samples are provided in the posts.

Technically the wrong forum, but; as a follow up - You say that 3.x doesn't ship with mobile theme, what about 4.x ? I know it's not released right now, but is it on the road map, and how far away?

The rest of the links look really nice and I'll be going over them later today.

    Thanks

    Hi Baatezu,

We have plans for mobile themes, we recently had similar discussion about this, but probably we will not be able to ship a mobile theme for the BETA. We will try to do it for the official release or upload such theme on Marketplace from where you will be able to download it.
