    Hi Guys,

The generic content sections of my site will not open since I did the upgrade from SP2 to SP4. I can drag and drop a GC onto the page and delete it but it does not want to open in Edit mode any longer.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,
    James

    Hi James,

Check whether any javascript errors are thrown on a page. Try using a new master page and template without any custom scripts and styles. Drop only GenericContent control and try to edit it. If you are using the build for .NET 4.0 make sure that your  Application pools is running on it.

    Sincerely yours,

    Hi Ivan,

Yes I am getting two errors:

Error: Sys.ArgumentUndefinedException: Value cannot be undefined.
    Parameter name: type
    Source File: http://localhost/ScriptResource.axd?d=GkiPhRgmbthjrrSpvVlemXjkZpHh4ZxjtGu8vVbF5n19CqZGiWiP2RTlHCbq7P4Kk0DwNLbED1O5BvUR1D2t-YZsSiw3Mm0VtyDEPt4OfY3CqoeM2BD0UhH30FPKf5pFls6cRV2WPZvIDfCA9EK3KnkHDKAxAaBAfqkq9coyvzNjvNdH0&t=626d15cb
    Line: 2703

    And:

Error: Sys.ArgumentUndefinedException: Value cannot be undefined.
    Parameter name: type
    Source File: http://localhost/ScriptResource.axd?d=GkiPhRgmbthjrrSpvVlemXjkZpHh4ZxjtGu8vVbF5n19CqZGiWiP2RTlHCbq7P4Kk0DwNLbED1O5BvUR1D2t-YZsSiw3Mm0VtyDEPt4OfY3CqoeM2BD0UhH30FPKf5pFls6cRV2WPZvIDfCA9EK3KnkHDKAxAaBAfqkq9coyvzNjvNdH0&t=626d15cb
    Line: 2703

I have tried creating a blank master page so that I can dump a generic content module on there to see if I can edit that alone but Sitefinity will not even pick up the Master Page like it normally does when I add a new template.

    Thanks,
    James

    Hello James,

MS AJAX library is not loaded or there are other scripts that cannot be properly loaded on your page.

    Thanks Ivan.

I have checked my Firebug and that seems to be the case but where do I get these now if they were not part of the upgrade?

    Cheers,
    James

    Hi Ivan,

I thought it strange that up until yesterday, I was able to add a generic content mod and was able to edit it.

I have done some tests now and it seems that I can edit the Generic Content modules in the news section I was working on yesterday which works off a different template to other pages.

The other pages however do not allow me to edit the Generic Content mods on using that specific template.

Here's what I can tell you.

    - More than a week ago we renamed the templates using a method you described in one of your forum posts to someone else.
    - We have also since upgraded SF to SP4.

Although we tried to make sure that all tests were fine, we cannot check everything and only now have noticed that this error is happening on specific templates.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    James

    Hello James,

Please check that if you have upgraded to a .NET 4.0 version of the SP, and your site is still running in older version of .NET application pool. Also you can check there articles which deal with the problem you are getting:
Error: "'Telerik' is undefined" when using OutputCache directive

    Hi Radoslav,

This is the oddest thing. I opened the page on which the Generic Content mods would not work, changed the template from the current one to the template on which the Generic Content mods DO work. After that, I switched back to the original template and now the Generic Content mods work.

There seems to some caching issue in Sitefinity I am not aware of despite resetting IIS, making a minor adjustment to the Web.config so the application will  rebuild and even rebooting my machine.

The other day I created a new snippet and this only appeared the next day when I got into the office so there is some caching issue which seems to be holding me up.

Can you please tell me if there is any other way we can "restart/refresh" this cache in Sitefinity if I go through a major change?

    Thanks,
    James

    Hi James,

Sitefinity cache, is flushed when the website is restarted. Issues that you are experiencing more sound like browser caching.  Browsers cache JS, CSS, and other resources. FireFox for example is caching much more content than IE. I've personally had problems with it caching a XAP file from a Silverlight application and throwing errors that my methods are not defined, where as in other browsers the problem was not experienced. Clearing the FireFox cache solved the problem.

If you are upgrading from .NET 3.5 to .NET 4.0 the Ajax Framework JavaScript files have the same name and for you pages they might have been cached. However in .NET 4.0 the content of the JS file is different and this might cause the page not loading the Ajax Framework scripts.
