I have a DB table which contains about 50 items which I want to import into the Sitefinity Blog... Which table(s) in the DB contains the Blog inforation so I can write a SQL Script to transform my existing data and dump it into the correct bucket?

    Thanks!

    Hello Garth,

We would not recommend you use SQL scripts to import the existing data. We suggest you implement a simple tool using the Blogs API. This tool will connect to the old database, get the necessary data and then import it in Sitefinity database through the API.

Let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thanks for the suggestion, however, I took a quick look at the Blog API and it's just not effective time wise to invest time writing a one off tool when the task could be accomplished in a few minutes with the correct table mappings... ?

    Hello Garth,

We never recommend our clients to modify Sitefinity database directly as this could cause a lot of problems. Using the API is safer and guarantees that the data will be successfully imported and the URLs of the posts will be properly generated. Additionally, the API methods implement a very complex logic and it will not be easy to achieve this through SQL.

Actually, creating the tool should be a few minutes task :). It could be a simple .aspx page under your Sitefinity web site. It will contain a few methods (one for getting the old data and one that iterates through the old data and creates the blogs and their posts using the API) and a button that will call the method for importing the data. And that's it.

Please contact us if you need any further assistance.

    Best wishes,
