    Hi There

We have an existin asp.net website that we are integrating sitefinity into.

We would like to you the sitefinity backend to create and manage news items and other lists and have that content displayed on our existing aspx pages.

What is the recommended way to do this?

For example, on one page we currently display a list of categories and news items from a previous custom CMS, and we would just like to replace these two sections of the page with the data from Sitefinity using the news module.

    Thanks

    Hello AdamC,

Because of the UrlRewriting Sitefinity uses, it would not be possible to use Sitefinity controls outside of Sitefinity pages. The recommended approach is to create Sitefinity templates (which are generated from masterpages, so you can just copy/paste your old templates) and create Sitefinity pages. The Sitefinity toolbox can be extended with user controls and custom controls, so you'll be able to use any legacy controls you have.

Finally, if you have some static pages that you do not wish to edit with Sitefinity, but would like to add them to the sitemap (navigation), you can create new external page and simply link to an old page.

I hope you'll find this information helpful. Let me know if we can help you with anything else.

    Kind regards,
    Ivan

    Thanks for the info.

We do nt want to use the sitefinity controls on our pages necessarily, but want to ue the api to get the data.  Is it possible to get access to the news posts pogamatically (by category) like it is with custom lists?

    Hello AdamC,

You should use NewsManager class (contained in Telerik.News assembly) and GetContent() method. With this class, you can perform any actions on news items. Please note that GetContent() has a large number of overrides that you could use.
