    Hello,
    We are planning to implement a bi-lingual site for our organization using Sitefinity. I also read through the forums and found this posting for localization - 2 domains for 2 languages which I am trying to accomplish too. We would like to have to two different domains for our website one for English and another one for Russian (as shown in the culture mapping show below).

    I am presently using my local machine for working on the project before we push it to live. I am setting the following mappings in the web.config file.

    <localization defaultProvider="Sitefinity"

     persistenceMode="DomainName"

     defaultCulture="en" cultures="en, ru"

     <cultureMappings>

       <add key="en.devrussia.oursite.org" culture="en" />

       <add key="devrussia.oursite.org" culture="ru" />

     </cultureMappings>

     ...

    </localization>

    When I browse the site normally they show up fine. But, when I try to use the Sitefinity  for content editing, I am getting an error stating that the page that I am looking for cannot be found (Whoops! the page could not be found/default error). The custom error is turned off in the web.config, but I can certainly provide you with the error if you would like me to.

    I am trying to use access the Sitefinity site \as:  devrussia.oursite.org/sitefinity/ and en.devrussia.oursite.org/sitefinity/.

    We are planning to provide two different domains/urls so that the users can easily edit the content and also look at the version of their site.

    I could not find much information about localization with DomainName. Could you please direct me to that section, if you have any. Could you please suggest me if I am doing something wrong and how can achive this.

    Thank you for all your help.

    Regards,

    Kiran.

    Hi kiran,

    Most probably the user you use has not been authenticated over the subdomains or you do not have rights to edit content item. Please make sure that the user you use has permissions to view and create content items. Check the module "Permissions" section.

    Hello Ivan,

    Thank you for your reply. I will certainly look in to the permissions for the future purpose but we are planning to the take the "Path Prefix"route for now.

    I have one more question regarding localization. As suggested on one of Sitefinity blog I have downloaded the Russian Language pack and placed them in the bin folder for my project. It has changed some of the Admin elements, but did not change every UI element in Sitefinity. For example:  the logout, account preference, create a page elements these haven't been changed. Do you have any suggestion how could I accomplish this rather than creating a bunch of resource files and giving a new name value pair. Has any one already done with, as I assume someone using Sitefinity might used it for creating a Russian site and might had changed all the UI elements. So, is it there a way that I can download all the files that will completely localize all the UI elements. We would be really thankful if you could please suggest me where I can get these files/or any advice on how we can go about it. Please let me know if I can found them at the sitefinity blog/ if you have someone ask you the same question before. May be I have been at the wrong place and did not find the correct forum.

    Thank you for all your time.

    Regards,
    Kiran.

    Hello kiran,

    The localization resources are translated by community members and we cannot guarantee abut the quality of translation. I am sending you not compiled files that you can translate and return back to me. i will compiled them and give you the version you have translated.

    Hello Ivan,

    Thank you for providing me the files. I am really sorry I am new to working with localization but I have worked my way through the user manual as well as the webinar that was provided on your site. I am really sorry, I am not able to understand what would you like me to do with the files that you have provided me with. After looking at the files that you have sent me, I am trying to visualize how to accomplish this. Please let me know if you have any reading materials that you have on sifefinity site that I can refer to. I have downloaded and found that they are the all resources with the same name (messages.ru), so I am really confused about what to do with them.

    I am trying to customize the Admin UI elements which I believe are at this location: (which I learned from the Multi-Language webinar)
    Sitefinity> Admin>App_LocalResources>Admin.master.resx

    So, I was looking for a Russian version of the all resource  file for all the files that are present in this folder, so that  i could include them in my project.

    I was also wondering whether all the files that you have sent me for the Russian version are for Sitefinity Admin Control templates (Admin side) folder or resource files for the on the client side, as we have two different folders in the project.

    I am totally confused here could you please let me know what would you like me to do these files  and any material that I can read. I am really sorry for the trouble. Thank you for all your time. Hope to hear from you.

    Regards,
    Kiran.

    Hi kiran,

    Since you said that the current backend localization is not complete, I am sending you the files which content you should translate in Russian and then return them back to me. If you have checked the webinar and User Manual I believe that you have understood that the localization fines for the backend are compiled.

     Hello Ivan,

    From reading the manuals and blogs this is what I understood please let me know if I am on the correct path. So, you would like to provide you an Russian translation of all the resources files that you have provided me with. After this I have to send you the translated Russian files so that you can compile them into the dll files. You would then compile them to dll files and provide them to me, so that I can place them in the "ru" folder that we have in the "bin" folder as suggested in the Sitefinity supports 10 languages post. Please let me know if this our plan. I was also wondering/curious if someone has already done this and may be I could just get those dll files if it possible from your end rather than translating these files again.

    And another thing I wanted to check with you was how about all the FAQ text files that are present in the Sitefinity project. How can you localize them for example: ControlsFAQText.txt in the Sitefinity> Admin > App_LocalResources folder.

    Please let me how we can localize these text files. I will work on the translation part.

    Thank you,

    Kiran.

    Hi kiran,

    Yes you need to translate the files I sent you in my other reply to you. I am sending you the FAQ files which should be translated as well.

    Hello Ivan,

    Thank you for getting back with me. We are working on the translations and I will try to get them to you.I don't read/ write Russian, but I have provide the files to my end client for translation.

    One final thing for now: I am a little curious about how we would localize the FAQ text files or for that matter just text files. Do we localize these text files similar to the resource files like for example: If we have a resource file called as Admin.master.resx we would create a new one called as Admin.master.ru.resx (Russian in this case) and change the name value pairs in the newly created file to be Russian values. So, do you use the same philosophy here to work with text files. Please let me know.

    Of course as suggested we can compose them to dll files, but I was thinking if you had to do an individual text file how we can accomplish localization. Thank you for all your time and help.

    Regards,
    Kiran.

    Hello kiran,

    All you have to do is translating the files without renaming them or changing the structure. Then you will receive the compiled resources for the language you have translated.

    Dear Ivan,

    Thank you for your reply. I realize that when I provide you the translated files you would compile them into dll. I was just wondering if you could do it in any other way. I just wanted to check with you to see if there was any other way to localize text files as shown in the  webinar for the resource files. For you resource files you would do something like: making a copy of a resource file and name it according to the language you will be using and then change the name value pairs in the newly created resource according to your language. I am just curious about how you would do that for text files nothing more than that and I also understand that when I provide you the translated files you will convert them into dll's.

    Thank you for all your time.
    Kiran.

    Hello kiran,

    All you have to do is translating the files without renaming them or changing the structure. These are standard ASP.NET localization resources.

    In Sitefinity 4.0 we introduced new translation process that allow you to change all labels from the UI.

    All the best,
