    Hi there,
    I have updated to the latest 3.6 version so I can use the Newsletter module. However I have the same issue we had with version 3.5

    I have set up the mail settings within my web.config as per

    <system.net>
        <mailSettings>
          <smtp from="mailmaster@yourdomain.com">
            <network host="127.0.0.1" defaultCredentials="True" port="25" />
          </smtp>
        </mailSettings>
      </system.net>

    When trying to configure newsletters it still requires me to set up SMTP Settings. This is fine, but it requires a username/password to be configured in which we do not have one (as we use the local SMTP Server to send mail). What is the recommended work around here? e.g. enter in fake email address and username/passwords? If we do this then the activation of SMTP Server settings fails.

    Is there any way to use Newsletter/SMTP without supplying username/password information through the UI?

    Hi Matthew,

    I regret to inform you that the Newsletters module was not improved in regards to the username/password settings in 3.6. Unfortunately it still cannot be used without these details.

    I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Kind regards,
    Georgi

    Is this the final answer on this?  So the Newsletter Module can not be used in 3.6 without a username and password .. real or fake... if the SMPT server does not require one?

    Hi Laura,

    The Newsletters moudule cannot be used without entering password and username. The module stores the settings in the database, not in the web.config and checks whether the MailingService could be connected to your account. If your host allows fake username and password you can give a try, although this could be concerned as not a good practice. The reason that the newsletters module does not work without username and password is preventing users for using common accounts. Also the MailingService and SendMail method requre username and password as a string parametes.

    All the best,
