    Hi team.

I am moving our web site to Sitefinity and now need to move the product catalogue across. Access to the product catalogue already exists via DAL and BLL DLLs which I don't really want to change at this stage.

However, I want to be able to use Sitefinity search with the product catalogue so what I am considering is to create a Sitefinity module for the product catalogue and reuse my existing DAL and BLL as part of the new module. If I take that approach, will I be able to search the product catalogue with the Sitefinity search feature?

    How will that work?

How will I create an index for it?

Is there anything I need to include in the module to allow for the product search later on?

    Thanks for your help!

    Regards,

    Ross.

    Hello Ross Reichardt,

Please take a look at this post that provided the whole implementation of a search index for the Products sample module - implementing_search_index

    Hello Ivan.

Thank you for your suggestion. It has taken a while but I now have Sitefinity indexing the contents of my product catalogue which is held entirely outside sitefinity.

What I will have eventually is multiple indexes. Some will index content held by sitefinity and some will index content in the product catalogue.

Can I set up the search control so that it will search on more than one index?

    Thanks again!

    Regards,

    Ross.

    Hello Ross Reichardt,

You could create union index that contains several indexes in it, then set the SearchResults to use it. By default the SearchResults can work only with one index. If the union index does not help you, you could take a look at this post.
